Job Description
AECOM’s Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning team is growing! We are seeking a Junior Traffic Engineer with a passion for transportation and mobility to join our multidisciplinary group. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects across Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, and beyond, while building your expertise.
Responsibilities:
· Assist in the planning, design, and review of traffic engineering projects, including:
- Temporary traffic management plans and construction staging reviews
- Traffic signal timing optimization and coordination
- Road safety and operational assessments
- Intersection capacity analysis and microsimulation modeling
· Conduct technical analyses using software such as Synchro, VISSIM, SIDRA, and other planning tools to evaluate traffic performance and recommend solutions
· Support the preparation of transportation impact assessments, traffic studies, and functional design reports
· Contribute to the development of technical reports, presentation materials, drawings, and figures to communicate analysis results and recommendations clearly
· Perform site visits, data collection (e.g., traffic counts, speed surveys), and field observations to inform design and operations work
· Participate in developing traffic control strategies during construction to ensure mobility and safety for all users
· Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, municipalities, utility providers, and contractors, to gather input and ensure alignment with project goals
· Attend project meetings, prepare meeting documentation, and assist with project coordination and communication
· Stay informed of evolving best practices, policies, and tools in traffic engineering, road safety, and multimodal planning
· Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver projects on time and within scope, while maintaining a high standard of quality and technical integrity
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field
• Minimum 2 years of experience in traffic engineering or transportation planning
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis
• Familiarity with traffic analysis software such as Synchro, VISSIM, or similar tools
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when required
Preferred Qualifications:
• EIT designation or eligibility for P.Eng. in British Columbia
• Experience in preparing traffic impact assessments, signal timing plans, or construction traffic management plans
• Exposure to transportation planning and design in a consulting environment
• Interest in multimodal planning is an asset
• Familiarity with CAD, GIS, or Python is considered an asset
