Position: IT Infrastructure Specialist
Salary: $$39.49 to $46.19/hr

Reports to: Chief Information Officer

Purpose of Position:
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the IT Infrastructure Specialist will support the growing suite of Information Technology infrastructure for the Municipality. They will be involved in operational support and system administration of Municipality’s private hybrid cloud infrastructure including OnPrem Servers, Network and Private Cloud services. They will work closely with other technical staff for server provisioning, application deployment and monitoring, configuration, patching, package administration, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning. The incumbent will be a member of a growing team applying advanced software concepts, techniques, and objectives to plan, create, maintain, enhance, and operate robust, high-availability services responsive to evolving organizational needs.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 4 Year University Degree in Computer Sciences or 3 Year Community College Diploma with 1 additional year of Server & CSP training
- Minimum 4 years of experience in Infrastructure Administration related positions; preferably in municipal government
- Microsoft Certification in Windows Server, Virtualization and Azure
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Possesses a senior level of system and cloud infrastructure expertise.
- Demonstrated experience in server and cloud administration with exceptional analytic and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to manage vendors and ensure quality and SLA standards are being met.
- Experience working with traditional on-premise server and cloud environments.
- Practical hands-on experience and best practices for a Microsoft Azure Cloud environment.
- Microsoft Azure IaaS, M365 – Exchange Online, Intune, Defender, Sentinel
- Windows Server, Linux Servers, Active Directory
- Network Administration and Principals; WAN/LAN, Site to Site, VLANs, WiFi
- Experience with hypervisors such as VMware, HyperV and Xen Server
- Cloud-smart hosting methodologies
- Curious and passionate about how existing and emerging technologies and service providers can be utilized to improve existing user experience.
- Excellent customer service skills, self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Possess good communication (written & verbal) and presentation skills with the ability to articulate information to a variety of constituents across cultures.
- Demonstrates strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills in complex environments with an aptitude for diplomacy.
- With strong ability to proactively address issues, a self-starter, and a self-learner.
- Experience managing technology services providers is an asset.
- High degree of personal integrity and interpersonal skills
- Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have a basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Design & implementation of server & hybrid-cloud services, network operations and general technology infrastructure. Interpret strategy, policies and translate to technical architecture.
- Influence server and cloud infrastructure decisions related to the overall IT Infrastructure roadmap and strategy.
- Develop SOPs related to Server, Network, Cloud Infrastructure Backup, and Recovery aligned with pre-approved Technology policies.
- Responsible for system performance, security, backups and disaster recovery validation & testing
- Develop & implement proactive health monitors to track KPIs for Technology infrastructure and proactively correct identified issues.
- Manage server and cloud services to ensure consistent, reliable, and secure service delivery.
- Manage IT Infrastructure project tasks and resources including planning through to implementation with minimal supervision.
- Work closely with the Chief Information Officer to implement proactive approaches to monitoring and reporting on system and cloud services that maximize uptime, reliability and visibility.
- Work with 3rd party vendors to deploy new services and internalize service operation
- Remain current with trends, new developments and issues in IT including innovation, current technologies, compliance, cyber risks and software, hardware and licensing costs.
- Act as a Senior technical resource within the DTCS organization
- Promote effective and appropriate use of Information Technology
- Participate in on call rotation.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Judgement is exercised in decision making within standard and accepted practices within the industry. Tactical operational decisions are expected.
- Work is performed under the general direction of the Chief Information Officer, who will provide strategic direction and approvals.
- Work within established guidelines, policies, procedures, directives, bylaws and legislation.
- Sitting, standing, bending, walking, climbing stairs, crawling, using a ladder, walking on uneven ground
- Lifting of up to 10 kgs on occasion
- Daily contact with office staff and Division Leader
- Daily contact with team members
- Weekly contact with Key Business Stakeholders
- Contractors, professionals, and suppliers for obtaining or exchanging information
Environment
- Primarily works in an office environment.
- May be required to drive to different locations.
- Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.; 35 hours per week.
- On call rotation. 17 weeks per year on average.
- Overtime may be required. Overtime will be in accordance with the respective collective agreement.
