JOB DESCRIPTION
The position involves conducting inspections of buildings, properties and premises to ensure compliance with regulations related to construction, demolition, zoning, signage, health and safety, plumbing, ventilation, and fire protection.
The role also includes technical assessments related to site occupancy, along with occasional support in decision-making for certain urban planning matters.
EXAMPLES OF TASKS PERFORMED
Inspections and Compliance
- Inspect buildings under construction, renovation, or demolition;
- Verify compliance of permits, plans, materials, and applicable standards;
- Conduct pre-permit inspections and recommend necessary adjustments;
Regulatory Oversight
- Draft and sign statements of offense, non-compliance notices, and stop-work orders;
- Follow up on complaints and recommend corrective actions;
- Prepare files for municipal court and testify when required;
Technical Expertise
- Check plumbing systems, ventilation, noise issues, and sanitary conditions;
- Authorize mechanical systems to be enclosed after inspection;
- Estimate plumbing work and validate permit costs;
Coordination and Citizen Relations
- Respond to public inquiries in person and by phone;
- Collaborate with other municipal departments;
- Participate in permit issuance and ensure inspection traceability;
REQUIRED PROFIL
- College diploma (DEC) in architectural technology or a related relevant field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a role involving similar responsibilities.
- Proficiency in French and English*, spoken and written.
- Knowledge of regulations and codes related to construction, demolition, zoning, signage, fire protection, health, housing, ventilation, and plumbing.
- Knowledge of construction materials, methods, reading/interpreting plans, and standard inspection techniques.
- Valid ASP construction card.
- Knowledge of English is a requirement due to potential interactions with the Town's citizens.
