Lead Workplace Safety in Ontario!

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development seeks an expert in infection prevention and control to lead and educate on workplace programs across Ontario. Ensure compliance with standards and policies while making a difference. to be part of our high-performing team!

NOTE: This position is located at 217 York St in London; however, alternate work arrangements may be available.

About the job

In this role, you will:
  • Assist ministry inspectors with workplace inspections for infection control compliance.
  • Develop and implement health and safety strategies.
  • Create compliance and enforcement strategies.
  • Provide expertise and guidance to staff and stakeholders.
  • Recommend risk mitigation and compliance measures.
  • Develop best practice guidelines and policies for infection control and healthcare programs.

Note: This position will require travel to workplaces

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

  • You have Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (e.g. Certification in Infection Control (CIC)) or equivalent certification and/or training towards fulfilment of CIC designation). Consideration will be given to other candidates based on experience and/or training.

Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control and Legislation:

You can:
  • stay current with infection prevention and control practices and trends.
  • interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulations, and government policies for various workplace sectors (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Health Protection and Promotion Act, Ontario Public Health Standards, Public Hospitals Act, Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act, etc.)

Specialized Knowledge:

You have:
  • expertise in occupational health and safety, infection prevention, risk management, and assessment principles.
  • knowledge of communicable diseases, worker exposures, and emergency preparedness.
  • understanding of epidemiology, best practices, and protocols for infection prevention, control, and management in the workplace.

Communication, Negotiation, Consultation, and Interpersonal Skills:

You have:
  • effective oral and written communication to explain complex health and safety matters, represent the ministry, and prepare technical reports.
  • strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and leadership skills to lead consultations and reconcile differing viewpoints.
  • excellent advisory and facilitation skills to build relationships and provide advice on complex issues.

Policy Development Knowledge:

You are:
  • able to understand policy and program development principles and techniques.
  • familiar with government policy development and approval processes to lead projects and create policy options.

Research, Analytical, and Evaluation Skills:

You have:
  • proven ability in research, evaluation, and problem-solving.
  • ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses of surveillance and epidemiological data.
  • ability to evaluate infection prevention programs across sectors and identify issues with recommendations.
