Inclusion Support Worker
We are currently recruiting an Inclusion Support Worker to support our family member, who lives in Sherwood Park, with an intellectual disability to find ways to expand their world in this ever changing environment. This role is 20 hours per week, evenings and weekends. We are looking for a person to dive into the individual’s interests and support them to get connected in their community. We are looking for a person who is creative, dynamic and adaptive.
Duties:
- Facilitate the individual’s participation in community events of their choice and support them in developing relationships at those community events
- Attend community events alongside the person, to facilitate relationships with others at the event
- Build a relationship with, and get to know the individual being supported
- Explore the persons interests and support the individual to connect with friends and new learning opportunities
- Work with the individual to establish a healthy daily routine
- Communicate any issues promptly, work collaboratively with their family
- Safeguard the individual in the home and community when needed
- Respond to unpredictable situations, if necessary, in a calm manner and problem solve with the family
- Collaborate with the individual around menu planning, shopping for groceries and cooking
- Encourage and influence a healthy lifestyle i.e. promote healthy eating, incorporating exercise into daily routines
Accountabilities:
- Communicate in a professional manner and build a respectful relationship with the individual and their family
- Provide a weekly update to the family
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Interact in a non-intrusive, image enhancing and age appropriate manner
- Safety: Be aware of the individual’s physical, social and recreational environments, and taking action to minimize risks and maximize inclusion
- Documentation: maintain accurate time sheets and any other documentation as required by the family
- Advocate: assist the individual to advocate on his own behalf, advocate on behalf of the person when necessary
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A steadfast belief and commitment to inclusion, the right for all people to belong, participate and contribute to the community
- The ability to work independently in unstructured environments and to employ effective time management skills
- Coaching skills- knowledge of and ability to demonstrate and support the development of skills as they relate to managing a home, social and work life
- Knowledge of community resources available to support the persons participation and inclusion within their community
- A valid class 5 driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, applicable insurance and driver’s abstract
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Criminal Record Check complete with a vulnerable sector check

Pay: $25.25 per hour
