Location: Northern British Columbia (gold mine site)
Rotation: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off
Travel: Commercial travel to charter departure locations available
Schedule: 12-hour workdays during rotation
Contract Duration: Through September 2025
Start Date: Immediate
Compensation: $60 – $85/hour (based on experience)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive HSE Lead to oversee and maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental performance at a remote gold mine site in Northern BC. This site-based role, supporting a heavy earthworks project, requires hands-on leadership, regulatory compliance expertise, and the ability to build strong working relationships across field teams and management.
In addition to core safety leadership responsibilities, this position includes a mentoring component. The successful candidate will work closely with the existing contractor to guide and support the development of their safety program. A careful, respectful, and culturally sensitive approach is essential to maintain and enhance the collaborative business relationship between the owner and contractor.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of HSE implementation and compliance on-site.
- Ensure adherence to mine-specific regulations, WorkSafeBC, and company HSE policies.
- Facilitate risk assessments, incident investigations, and corrective action plans.
- Coach and mentor field personnel and supervisors on safe work practices.
- Provide guidance and support to the contractor's safety team to help mature and enhance their internal safety systems.
- Navigate and respect the cultural dynamics and business relationship between the owner and the contractor.
- Liaise with client representatives, contractors, and internal teams to foster a positive safety culture.
- Maintain documentation, reporting, and performance metrics.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Health & Safety leadership role in the mining, construction, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Certification in OHS (CRSP, CHSC, NCSO, or equivalent).
- Strong working knowledge of BC’s mining safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring or capacity building within a contractor or partner organization is a strong asset.
- Experience with heavy earthworks operations is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently in a remote rotational environment.
