Job Title: Houseperson

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia 

Salary: $45,000 + Benefits & Bonus

Purpose:

The Houseperson is a unique hybrid role, blending technical and mechanical skills along with cleaning and custodial functions. This position is responsible for providing on-site support to residents, as well as for the team, maintaining the facility and cleanliness of common areas while completing quality control inspections and repairs required to improve our customer satisfaction. The houseperson is also responsible for preventative maintenance and operation of the basic building systems which include but not limited to plumbing, mechanical and HVAC equipment, electrical systems, basic home appliance repairs, and basic carpentry.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Daily Cleaning 

Cleans all common areas including grounds, garages, lobbies, corridors, stairwells, elevators, washrooms, garbage room, storage rooms, mechanical/electrical rooms, public washroom, and amenity rooms. Cleaning will be completed at a frequency that ensures the level of cleanliness consistently exceeding Minto’s service delivery standards.

Dusts and cleans all glass, windows and mirrors within common areas.

Maintains all flooring surfaces, including vacuuming, moping and sweeping surface flooring. Cleans walls and rails.

Assist with preparation of garbage bins for pick up.

Reports any deficiencies such as tripping hazards, resolving immediately where possible. To be health and safety conscious.

Inspects all common area light bulbs, fixtures and signage daily. Replace any busted light bulbs.

May assist in clearing snow and ice, applying salt and sand to common area walkways, and completion of operational logs.

Perform all facets of the job in accordance with the legislation applicable to the jurisdiction, including Health and Safety standards, WHMIS, AODA, PIPEDA and Human Rights.

All other duties within the spirit, scope and purpose of the role, as requested by Management

Maintenance Support

Completes compliance inspection and reporting for all HVAC, life safety building equipment at sites and at other times as required to support the service technician calendar schedule.

Complete in-suite inspections (vacant and occupied) as directed by the manager. Light touch up cleaning of vacant suites will be required and as needed.

Responds to and directs all service-related calls and requests from the building tenants and provides solutions to all tenant and occupant types of building related issues and concerns. 

Performs in-suite repairs deemed necessary and as directed. In-suite repairs may include but not limited to basic carpentry, basic plumbing, basic appliance, basic HVAC, basic electrical works.

General

Participates in the weekly on-call rotation. Able to work as scheduled.

Deals with all customers professionally

Co-ordinates with team members and manager to ensure high customer satisfaction at all levels

Ensures that areas are left clean and secured after service work is completed

Able to push, pull and lift moderate weight 

Must be able to work a variety of day or afternoon shifts including participation on-call rotation 

Assist other staff when requested

Report all maintenance deficiencies for corrective action and complete some maintenance work

Participate in team meetings and staff events

Other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, and as requested by management.

Technical Competencies:

Education: Minimum High School education. 

Experience:

Previous experience in Hospitality or Property Management environment is an asset

Vehicle and valid driver’s license are required

Ability to work on feet for long periods of time

Ability to lift heavy objects

Basic knowledge of minor plumbing, minor electrical, minor carpentry and general maintenance

Previous janitorial experience

Beneficial to be in a prior client facing Customer Service role

Specialized Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Ability to work effectively independently and with limited supervision

Team oriented

Interact with guest in pleasant and helpful manner

Able to adapt to changing demands

Proven organizational skills and attention to detail

An energetic personality

Must meet grooming standards

Uniforms will be worn and meet site standard

Respond to guest enquiries in professional manner

Must complete all tasks and assignments to the required standards.

Abide by all health and safety guidelines

Have a high level of social interaction
