Crossroads Hospice Society (CHS) has been providing compassionate hospice and bereavement care for over 30 years. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers supports the emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of individuals facing advanced illness and end of life.
We are currently seeking a committed, compassionate, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Housekeeper/Kitchen Helper. This role combines responsibilities from both kitchen and housekeeping operations to support the well-being and comfort of our patients and their families.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Housekeeper/Kitchen Helper (Full-Time, Regular)
Location: Crossroads Inlet Centre Hospice, Port Moody, BC
Start Date: Ideally June 23rd (or sooner), position open until filled
Availability: Must be available to work all shifts (days/evenings/weekends)

POSITION SUMMARY
This unique role blends housekeeping and kitchen responsibilities to support holistic care in our 10-bed hospice residence. The Housekeeper/Kitchen Helper ensures a clean, safe, and comforting environment while assisting with meal preparation and service for patients.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES for the Housekeeper/Kitchen Helper:
Housekeeping:
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, washrooms, nurse’s station, and common areas.
- Perform terminal cleaning of empty rooms following strict protocols.
- Respond promptly to emergency cleanups and assess immediate cleaning needs.
- Assist with handling hospice laundry (wash, dry and fold linens and towels).
- Perform all cleaning duties in compliance with health and safety guidelines.
- Maintaining a safe environment at all times (i.e. proper use of signage).
- Collect and dispose of trash and recycling.
- Report defective equipment and any safety hazards to the supervisor.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient, family, and staff information.
- Performing other housekeeping related duties as required.
Kitchen Support & Food Preparation:
- Assist in preparing and serving patient meals, including accommodating special diets.
- Assist with baking and preparing food for special occasions.
- Help develop weekly menus as needed.
- Wash, dry, and store dishes, pots, and utensils used in meal preparation.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, equipment, and storage areas.
- Maintain food safety and cleanliness standards in accordance with Health Regulations.
- Maintain an ongoing inventory of food and household supplies related to the kitchen.
- Organize and clean pantries and food storage areas regularly.
- Performing other kitchen related duties as required.
REGULAR SHIFT SCHEDULE (35 hours):
- Kitchen: Sunday & Wednesday from 10:00am to 6:00pm
- Housekeeping: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday from 9:00am to 5:00pm
Additional Availability: Extra shifts may be required to cover staff vacations or sick leave.
SALARY RANGE: from $22.27 up to $24.55
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 1 year of housekeeping experience (required)
- Minimum of 1 year of cooking experience (preferred)
- Previous experience in a healthcare or hospice environment is an asset
- WHMIS certification (required)
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and multitasking skills
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Ability to operate housekeeping and kitchen-related equipment safely and effectively
- Moderate physical fitness level, including the ability to: lift up to 25 pounds and to be on your feet for the duration of the shift
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of patient, family, and staff information in accordance with Society policies and Fraser Health Authority regulations
- Understanding and acceptance of the hospice philosophy of care
- Ability to perform duties in a compassionate, respectful, and efficient manner, while upholding the dignity and individual needs of patients, families, and guests
