Job Title: Health Care Aide (HCA)
Overview:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA) at Cartwright Cares, you will play a crucial role in providing hands-on, compassionate care to seniors in Pincher Creek. You will assist clients with their daily activities, supporting them in maintaining their independence and dignity in the comfort of their own homes. This role requires a nurturing attitude, patience, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
Health Care Aides provide clients with the following services:
· Assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene
· Medication reminders and support
· Mobility assistance and transfer support
· Meal preparation and assistance with eating
· Light housekeeping
· Companionship and emotional support
· Medical appointment accompaniment and support
· Providing a safe and supportive environment for clients
· Communicating with family members and healthcare professionals regarding care progress
Responsibilities:
· Direct Care: Provide hands-on assistance with activities of daily living to promote the well-being and independence of clients.
· Health Monitoring: Monitor client health conditions (e.g., blood pressure, mobility, general health) and report any significant changes to supervisors or healthcare providers.
· Follow Care Plans: Follow individualized care plans provided by the LPN or supervisor, ensuring that all tasks and services are delivered as outlined.
· Reporting: Report any changes in the client’s condition or care needs to the LPN, Owner/Director, or other designated supervisors.
· Companionship: Offer emotional support, engage in meaningful conversations, and foster companionship to alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation.
· Collaboration: Work closely with supervisors, the LPN, other healthcare professionals, and family members to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
· Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely records of daily tasks, client progress, and health status for each client.
· Promote Safety: Ensure that the client’s home environment is safe, and assist with fall prevention and emergency preparedness.
· Respect Client Preferences: Work with clients to understand and respect their individual preferences for care, routines, and daily activities.
Mandatory Requirements:
· Valid Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required.
· Proof of Insurance: Proof of insurance coverage with a minimum of $1,000,000 is required for use of a personal vehicle while performing job duties.
· Clear Driver’s Abstract: A clear and up-to-date driver’s abstract may be required.
· First Aid/CPR-C Certification: Current First Aid and CPR-C certification is mandatory.
· Health Care Aide Certification: Must hold a Government of Alberta approved Health Care Aide Certificate and be registered with the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory.

· Physical Requirements: Ability to assist with lifting, transferring clients, and performing physical tasks associated with patient care.
· Clear Criminal Record Check: A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check must be completed.
Education and Experience:
- Health Care Aide Certification: Must have completed an accredited Health Care Aide program and be registered with the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory.
- Experience: Previous experience in caregiving or healthcare services is preferred but not mandatory.
- Additional Certifications: Current First-Aid and CPR-C certification is required upon hire.
- Language: Must demonstrate the ability to understand, speak, read, and write effectively in English.
Working Conditions:
· Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the needs of clients.
· Work will primarily be in clients’ homes, though other locations may be required (e.g., community events, medical appointments).
· Ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds is necessary.
Wages:
- $22.00-$26.00/hour, depending on experience.
