Job Description
We are looking for a motivated, reliable, and detail oriented individual to fill one of our open occupational health and safety technician positions in a small but growing local firm. Individuals can expect to rotate shifts to accommodate client needs, so willingness to work evenings on alternating weeks is a must. Some short-term travel may also be expected, primarily within Manitoba. Reliable vehicle is a must - mileage is reimbursed.
Typical duties will include:
- Inspection of work areas, particularly Type 1, 2, and 3 asbestos abatement work areas.
- Use of air monitoring and other equipment to evaluate workplace environments.
- Microscope use for daily air monitoring results.
- Visual assessment and evaluation of work place practices to ensure they follow safety standards and government regulations.
- Collect bulk samples of potentially toxic materials.
- Production of daily inspection reports, as well as larger site evaluation reports.
Job Requirements
- Excellent spoken and written English skills - Academic writing required
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to self-schedule with clients as needed – working alone once training is complete
- Knowledge of government guidelines and safety requirements, both provincially and federally
- Must have valid class 5 license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Willingness to participate in criminal record checks and/or drug screening before sensitive site access
- Must be physically able to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding etc.
- Must be medically fit to wear respiratory protection
- Willingness to learn access into confined spaces or work at heights (i.e. phobias should be considered)
Education Requirements
Applicable college program or B.Sc. and experience is an asset. However, on the job training is provided, and experience is not required for these positions.
Salary Range
Pay is bi-weekly, negotiable starting salary (education and experience dependent), entry level ~42,500 - $50,000/year, with possible bonus structure.
