Responsibilities
OVERALL PURPOSE
The Guideway Labourer will assist a Technician or Serviceperson in the repair and maintenance of the mainline track, special trackwork, reaction and power rails.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Works under the direction of a Supervisor, Technician or Serviceperson to accomplish scheduled or unscheduled maintenance on the guideway.
2. Assists Serviceperson in repair and maintenance functions associated with guideway structure, rail condition, shop work and other related duties.
3. Operates motor vehicles with valid B.C. driver's licence.
4. Uses hand and power tools where required and directed.
5. Attends technical and safety training as required.
6. Responds to emergencies in accordance with established procedures through immediate response and quick action.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
As per WorkSafeBC regulations, this job requires an annual fit test and may necessitate the use of a respirator. In either case, the employee must be clean shaven. Any exemption requests should be raised to Occupational Health and/or Labour Relations for consideration.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Grade 10 education or equivalent
Class 5 driver's licence
EXPERIENCE
Demonstrated experience in industrial/maintenance setting.
Experience in rail maintenance is preferred.

Availability requirements:
Overnights & weekends
Must be comfortable working at heights and in all weather conditions.
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Rate of Pay
Wage: $37.40 per hour
Please note: All new employees will be subject to a 6-week trainee rate at 75% of the hourly rate with the remainder of the first year at 90% of the hourly rate.
