The Opportunity: Guardianship Services is designated to act as the legal guardian for children and youth between the ages of 0 – 19 years of age who are in the legal custody of the Director under the Child Family & Community Services Act. The Guardianship & Post Majority Service Program also prepares youth that are transitioning into adulthood for post-majority service agreements. Post-majority services assistant and support young adults between the ages of 19 – 26 years of age who meet eligibility requirements. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that the child/youth is aware of his/her rights under section 70 of the CFCSA
  • Develops care plans with a focus on long-term planning for the child/youth in care (ex. cancellation of the care order, transfer of custody, adoption)
  • Provide on-going support and guidance to the child/youth for the duration his/her time in care, taking into consideration the child/youth’s views and best interests as outlined in legislation
  • Involve birth parents and extended family in planning wherever possible
  • Ensure there is opportunity and means to reconnect children and youth living in urban areas to their family, communities, and culture

What You Will Bring to The Role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Social Work, Human Services, or a related field (Psychology, Sociology, Child & Youth Care, etc.) preferred, or
  • Two-year Diploma in Social Services and two years direct experience working with children and families
  • Must possess C3, C4 or greater delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) in British Columbia, or the ability to attend training to obtain C4 delegation

Wage Range: The target hiring range for this position is $40.52 to $52.47 per hour. Candidates will typically be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the wage range. Placement within the wage range is dependent on the applicants’ role specific knowledge, skills, abilities, related experience and in consideration of factors such as market conditions and internal equity.
