We are currently searching for a General Maintenance (General Labourer) who is positive, enthusiastic, and has a passion for excellence to join our maintenance team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, responsibilities include but not limited to:
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Troubleshooting/responding to mechanical repairs ranging from heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, fan coils, chillers, pumps, boilers and cooling towers.
- Troubleshooting electrical systems, motor controls, lighting and dimming systems.
- Maintaining the pool and the hot tub, including daily testing and chemical application as required.
- Must be able to read and understand blue prints.
- Follow Company and Department’s safety and security policies and procedures to ensure a clean, safe, and secure environment.
- Perform preventative maintenance program in guest rooms and common areas.
- To work in a neat and efficient manner – keeping work areas clean and well organized.
- Follow policies and procedures for the safe operation and storage of tools, equipment, and machines.
- Follow property specific procedures for handling emergency situations (i.e. Evacuations, medical emergencies, natural disasters.)
- Follow Hazardous Material Management Program procedures for the handling and disposing of chemicals.
- Complete appropriate safety training and certifications to perform work tasks
- Conduct daily engineering rounds.
- Address guests' service needs in a professional, positive, and timely manner.
- Provide assistance to individuals with disabilities.
- Anticipate guests' service needs (i.e. Asking questions of guests to better understand their needs).
- Discuss work topics, activities, or problems with coworkers, supervisors, or managers discreetly and quietly, avoiding public areas of the property.
- Participate in all Maintenance Department emergency work.
- Provide assistance to coworkers, ensuring they understand the tasks.
- Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines (i.e. Identify defects).
- Use the Lockout/Tag out system and use PPE before performing any maintenance work.
- Carry all equipment (i.e. Keys, tools, radio) in order to carry out work tasks at all times.
- Ensure that all flammable materials are stored in OSHA and EPA approved containment devices.
- Respond and attend to guest repair requests.
- Report any serious maintenance problems, unusual findings, or safety hazards immediately to the Manager.
- Identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves for equipment.
- Maintain proper maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed.
- Record all information for finished and unfinished calls prior to shift change.
- Assist with snow removal and maintenance of ice management when required.
- Use proper equipment, wear, appropriate personal protective clothing and apply correct lifting procedures, as necessary, to avoid injury.
- Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisor.
- High school diploma with 2 years advanced vocational training or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years maintenance experience is required.
- Knowledge of operating pool equipment, test and maintain water chemistry.
- Knowledge of plumbing, carpenter, electrician, drywall and finishing trades
- Ability to install, perform preventative maintenance and repair air conditioners, air compressors, generators, pumps and oilers used in heating and cooling of buildings and washers, dryers and refrigerators
- Ability to read gauges and meters to monitor heating and cooling systems; keeping records of the readings.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Must be able, walk, stand or walk for long periods of time and climb, kneel or crawl in confined spaces.
- Previous hotel experience an asset.
- Must be able to communicate well in English, in both written and oral forms.
- Must be able to work flexible hours which includes holidays and weekends.
- Trade certification preferred.
