This is a faculty position at the rank of Lecturer to hold the Field Practicum Coordinator position. This position requires a strong First Nations knowledge base and experience in the areas of philosophy, spirituality, treaties, self-government, residential schools and healing. Areas of particular interest for field education practice and supervision are child welfare, health and mental health, social work practice with individuals, families and communities. This position will teach, and coordinate and supervise practicum students at the BISW/DISW level.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Practicum Coordinator will teach INSW classes and, will oversee the placement and supervision of students in practicum settings. The duties of the Field Practicum Coordinator include:
- Identifying field placements for students;
- Working closely with the Associate Deans or Program Coordinator to ensure successful completion of student placements;
- Interacting regularly with Field Supervisors in placement environments to deal with issues or concerns;
- Organizing and facilitating orientation sessions and practicum seminars for students;
- Updating and maintaining a Practicum Manual for students;
- Participating in SISW faculty meetings and committees, as designated by the Associate Deans or Program Coordinator;
- Promoting positive relations for the University with related agencies; and
- Ensuring timely completion of placement reports, as required.
- An MISW/MSW with five years post MISW/MSW experience.
- Relevant experience in teaching students in a post-secondary environment;
- Superior communication skills (written and verbal);
- Experience working, teaching, or living in a First Nations environment and ability to speak a First Nations language is an asset.
