Fiber Splicing Technician
Solo Cable is currently seeking an experienced Fiber Splicing Technician to join our growing operations in Southwestern Ontario for a permanent, full-time position.

Qualifiers: ONLY QUALIFIED APPLICANTS TO APPLY
- Must currently reside in Southwestern Ontario, Canada only
- Valid, clean Ontario G class License (D/A/AR an asset but not required)
- Previous experience in the fields of Construction /Telecommunications or transferable skills that align
- Alternate but comparable in-field work experience is an asset
- Knowledge of landscaping/concrete/asphalt repair techniques is an asset
- Practiced knowledge of Book 7 is an asset
- Willing to commute throughout Southwestern Ontario (may extend up to 200 km)
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required); A relocation package is not available.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the installation, repair and maintenance of fiber optics for commercial, residential, aerial and underground projects
- Make splicing rearrangements on existing facilities in buried, aerial and building work locations
- Splice and repair various types and sizes of telecommunication cables including single line, coaxial and fiber optic.
- Read, create and maintain splicing schematics and diagrams
- Make splicing rearrangements on existing facilities in buried, aerial and building work locations
- Install and layout all types of fiber communication cabling
- Operate splicing/testing equipment in order to test and repair fiber networks
- Complete physically demanding jobs such as lifting, carrying, digging and/or climbing
- Record and report project progress ensuring to communicate any potential delays
- Read and understand blueprints
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 Years’ Experience as a Fiber Technician
- Valid Certificates in Fiber Splicing (CFOT, CFOS/H, CFOS/D, CFOS/O)
- Must be willing to commute throughout Southwestern Ontario
- Criminal Background Check
- Clean driver’s abstract to be insurable
- Must be safety conscious
- Must be able to comfortably work at heights (10 – 20 ft)
- Must be able to comfortable work in confined spaces
- Excellent collaboration/communication skills; able to communicate and receive direction from others
- Must currently reside and be eligible to work in Southwestern Ontario
- Willing to work overtime, weekends, evenings and emergency call-outs
- Able to do physically demanding work i.e., digging and carrying of heavy equipment
- Able to work in all weather conditions
Additional Requirements:
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and repetitive tasks, managing time efficiently
- Mechanically inclined; able to maintain company truck, machinery or tools assigned, trouble-shoot, repair and replace as appropriate
- Geographical knowledge sufficient to read maps and follow directions.
- Competent problem-solving skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision; Self-motivated, disciplined, organized and a team player
- Must adhere to all company specific policies and regulations
