Our client, a well-respected family law firm in Ottawa, is seeking a Family Law Clerk to join their dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of family law matters in a supportive environment that offers flexibility and professional growth. The role is hybrid, providing a balance of in-office and remote work.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Draft, review, and revise family law documents such as Applications, Separation Agreements, Parenting Plans, Financial Statements, Net Family Property Statements, Affidavits, and court briefs.
- Manage the full life cycle of files, from opening to closing, in accordance with firm procedures and LSO standards.
- Organize and maintain client files in both electronic and physical formats, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Serve as a primary point of contact between lawyers, clients, opposing counsel, and external professionals.
- Schedule and coordinate court appearances, mediations, meetings, and deadlines for assigned lawyers.
- Track the progress of files and ensure compliance with all court and internal timelines.
- Accurately record time entries and assist with billing processes using practice management software.
- Provide additional administrative and litigation support as required by the team.
What You Bring to the Table:
- Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Law Clerk supporting a litigation practice; family law experience strongly preferred.
- ILCO certification or LSO Paralegal License is a significant asset.
- Strong knowledge of Family Law Rules, court procedures, and relevant documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with professionalism in handling sensitive client matters.
- Proficiency with legal software; experience with Clio and DivorceMate considered an advantage.
- A proactive, adaptable, and team-oriented approach.
