As part of Workforce Relations, the Investigations Unit is an operational centre of excellence within government offering leadership, advice and support; best practices; central screening and coordination; and, oversight and training in the area of labour and employee-related investigations.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must provide and maintain a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Must possess and maintain a Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License with access to a vehicle
  • Must be able to travel within Manitoba by air and ground transportation
  • Must be able to work overtime as required

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field (e.g. human resources, labour relations, labour law) or an equivalent combination of related education, training and experience
  • Experience conducting in-depth investigations into allegations of employee misconduct
  • Experience in employee and labour relations, including providing advice, guidance and recommendations
  • Experience interpreting, applying, and administering collective agreements and related legislation
  • Strong conflict resolution skills with the ability to use influence to solve problems and advance opportunities
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex and sensitive information to a variety of audiences
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to convey accurate, concise information in a logical, well-organized and clear manner
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to develop credibility and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to make appropriate recommendations in complex situations
  • Ability to continuously improve and adapt job tasks and processes in response to organizational priorities
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively with a high degree of independence and autonomy, and take initiative

Duties:
Reporting to the Manager of Employee and Labour Relations Investigations, this position is responsible for leading or participating in workplace investigations of varying complexities, such as allegations of inappropriate behaviour, misconduct, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, workplace violence, theft, substance abuse, falsification, or other employee misconduct or violations of policies. The position ensures the process is objective, timely and within the provisions of the various collective agreements, legislation and policies; and makes recommendations to the employer concerning the appropriate disposition.
