The Educational Assistant (EA) will support the classroom teacher in providing an engaging, nurturing, and organized learning environment in line with Montessori philosophy for children in Kindergarten and Grade 1. The EA will assist with day-to-day classroom activities, working directly with students to foster their development, independence, and love for learning. The EA will also contribute to the maintenance of the classroom environment and ensure the smooth functioning of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Classroom Support: Assist the lead teacher in delivering Montessori lessons and activities, including supporting individual and small-group work.
- Student Supervision: Provide supervision during transitions, outdoor activities, lunch breaks, and free play. Ensure safety and positive behavior management.
- Individualized Assistance: Offer one-on-one or small group support to students needing additional help in areas such as reading, writing, math, and social skills.
- Prepared Environment: Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and inviting classroom that aligns with Montessori principles. Help prepare and set up materials for lessons and activities.
- Observation and Reporting: Observe students’ progress and behavior, recording any notable changes or developments to share with the lead teacher. Assist in tracking student progress.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the lead teacher and other staff to support each child’s development. Communicate effectively with the team regarding any concerns or student needs.
- Positive Role Model: Demonstrate and model respect, patience, and mindfulness, aligning with Montessori values of independence, respect, and responsibility.
- Parent Communication: Assist in relaying information to parents when required, particularly concerning day-to-day matters or student progress.
- Professional Development: Participate in professional development opportunities and training as required to stay current with Montessori education techniques and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements: Completion of a recognized Educational Assistant program or equivalent experience in a similar role. Autism training.
- Montessori Knowledge: Some understanding of the Montessori philosophy and approach to education, or a willingness to learn. Montessori certification is an asset but not required.
- Experience: Experience working with neurodiverse children, preferably in an educational setting, ideally in early elementary.

- Empathy, patience, and understanding towards the needs of children
- Certifications: Current First Aid certification, and a valid criminal record check (including the vulnerable sector).
Working Conditions:
- Classroom environment with frequent student interactions and supervision responsibilities both indoors and outdoors.
- Occasional lifting and bending to assist young children with activities.
