Position Title: EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR ASSISTANT

Job Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Daycare, the Early Childhood Education Assistant supports the Early Childhood Educators in providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for the youngest members of the Haisla Nation community. The ECEA assists in delivering developmentally appropriate activities that promote children’s cognitive, emotional, and social growth, while incorporating the x̄áʼislak̓ala language, stories, songs, and cultural practices. This role includes helping with daily routines, engaging children in learning experiences, preparing materials, and ensuring the environment remains healthy, safe, and welcoming. The ECEA works collaboratively with educators, parents, and families to foster the holistic development and well-being of infants, toddlers, nursery, and preschool-aged children.

The Haisla Nation is the band government of the Haisla people. Our mission is to build a powerful, prosperous and proud community, healthy in mind, body and spirit. We are about 2023+ people, with approximately 700 living in Kitamaat Village. Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist Early Childhood Educators in implementing daily activities, routines, and cultural programming for children.
- Support the delivery of engaging and age-appropriate learning experiences, including early literacy, numeracy, and creative play.
- Help incorporate Haisla cultural teachings, x̄áʼislak̓ala language, stories, and songs into activities.
- Supervise and interact with children to promote their physical, emotional, and social development.
- Prepare, set up, and clean up program materials, play areas, and activity spaces.
- Assist with meal and snack preparation, ensuring dietary needs are met.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment, addressing potential hazards promptly.
- Monitor and document observations about children’s participation and behaviour, and share relevant information with the ECE or Manager.
- Help maintain attendance and activity records as directed.
- Follow all childcare licensing regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Immediately report any safety concerns, incidents, or suspected abuse to the Manager, Daycare.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with children, families, and staff.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate from an approved BC program.
- Current CPR and Child First Aid certification.
- Food Safe Level 1 Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience working with young children; experience in an Indigenous or culturally-based setting is an asset.
- Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic with a strong commitment to supporting children’s well-being.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work under the direction of an ECE and as part of a collaborative team.
- Basic knowledge of child development and health & safety practices.
- Ability to follow instructions, take initiative, and adapt to changing needs in the daycare environment.
- Valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset.
- Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Records Check (with vulnerable sector screening).

Salary Range: $26.39/hr - $32.60/hr
