COMPANY PROFILE:
The Central Okanagan Food Bank is located in the BC interior and serves the communities of Kelowna and West Kelowna. We serve over 10,000 individuals per month, 44% are children under the age of 15 and another 19% are seniors on a fixed income. Additionally, we provide surplus food to 40-50 local non-profit organizations in the area and across the southern BC interior. Our impact continues to grow.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Kelowna location of the COFB is the heart of food insecurity support in the community. From here, a tight knit group of volunteers and staff build, sort, and distribute food hampers to member of our community who need some help with food insecurity. The main function of the Distribution Associate is to work closely with the Distribution & Client Services Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator to serve clients and support staff & volunteers. Our Kelowna location has seen rapid growth and we need a dynamic, interpersonally gifted individual who can help us meet the increased demand while expanding client focused processes and systems.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support and engage with distribution activities including hamper packing and hamper distribution to ensure that clients are served in a timely, caring, and efficient manner
2. Ensure that the volunteers are equipped and supported as needed
3. Directly address client needs as necessary in support of staff & volunteers
4. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with staff & volunteers
5. Stepping into various distribution roles as needed
6. Recognizing the odd jobs needed throughout the building and ensuring completion
7. Providing support and assistance to the Coordinator as required
8. Other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities:
· Demonstrates concern for Clients and issues of poverty, and food security.
· Exhibits excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written in addition to excellent listening skills.
· Exhibits strong organizational and time management skills: ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
· Ability to exercise good judgement, problem solving, critical thinking and flexibility in response to changing situations and needs
· Demonstrates proficiency in Link2Feed, and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook programs.
· Ability to work effectively independently and as a team.
· Knowledge, experience, and willingness to learn about Food Bank operations.
· Demonstrated ability to effectively introduce and follow change that is consistent with the vision, purpose, and operating principles of the Central Okanagan Food Bank
· Basic Food Safety knowledge
· Good physical fitness
