Job Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President, Member Services, the Director, Retirement Planning will play a leadership role in enhancing the value provided to members through pension education and guidance, specially related to retirement planning. As an experienced leader, they will coach and guide staff in delivering education and guidance to members as they make important decisions about their retirement planning. This individual will be primarily responsible for ensuring consistent development and application of retirement planning education and guidance used in our interactions with members through all service channels. They will support service delivery teams and act as subject matter experts in creating new or improved guidance tools, resources, and communications to enhance members' understanding and engagement with their pensions and financial wellness. As a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), they will use their experience to provide financial planning advice to individuals, apply that expertise in the ongoing development of HOOPP’s education and guidance to members, and review all new educational content, supplementing the technical writers, ensuring it meets established financial planning standards.
This individual will work with team members cross-functionality within Plan Operations and across other divisions in HOOPP and identify any emerging risks and opportunities associated with this guidance and make recommendations on possible resolutions. They have an in-depth understanding of the financial services landscape, government benefits and retail retirement products and possess the ability to articulate and communicate this expertise across various communication channels.

They should have a proven capability of influencing, leading, and championing successful change, both at the executive level and all levels within an organization and operate with a view to continuous improvement.
What you will do:
Provide subject matter expertise in financial and retirement planning to educate, lead and coach the Member Services team to support the education and guidance we provide to members.
- Ensure adherence to financial planning standards in the delivery of guidance to members.
- Review the application of the guidance provided across each of the member moments that matter (life events) ensuring the highest level of professional guidance to members.
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex or high impact member enquiries/issues to ensure the best outcome for the member, using the opportunity to coach staff as necessary.
- Ensure all enhancements related to servicing members that incorporate financial planning standards are effectively communicated broadly across the division and incorporated in all internal training material.
- Act as the subject matter expert in retirement planning to influence leaders and stakeholders to drive change in support of our members.
Deliver scalable financial education by providing thought leadership and content creation related to retirement planning.
- Lead the creation and development of informative and engaging retirement planning content that will be used across HOOPP to educate members about the value of the HOOPP pension and empower members to make informed decisions.
- Partner with internal teams to ensure content is consistent and aligned with member needs.
- Research retirement planning concepts and financial market trends and incorporate the findings in an easy-to-read and understandable format.
- Identify, champion, and support new approaches and change management techniques to implement HOOPP pension education and guidance to support members throughout their lifecycle with HOOPP.
Establish and develop business partnerships across Plan Operations and HOOPP to facilitate the successful implementation of various initiatives.
- Represent the service team’s perspective in cross divisional initiatives related to member pension education and financial wellness.
- Ensure new tools and products support providing education and guidance aligned with CFP guidelines and standards of practice.
Identify areas of opportunities, improvements in the marketplace and monitor regulatory and industry-wide developments.
- Collect and analyze information and data regarding trends, internal and external stakeholders to propose innovations and enhancements related to education and guidance.
- Identify emerging risks associated with any prescribed education and guidance and make recommendations on resolutions.
- Monitor the retirement landscape, including retirement savings vehicles, ensuring the team remains knowledgeable about best practices, industry trends and legislative changes related to retirement planning.

- A CFP designation is required.
- A university degree or postgraduate degree and/or combination of equivalent training, education and experience are required.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Financial Services sector writing/developing retirement/financial planning content and advising individuals, with at least 5 years in a leadership or coaching role.
- Defined Benefit pension plan knowledge.
- Extensive knowledge of the financial industry and the various products available to individuals
- Deep understanding of pension plans, retirement income strategies and financial literacy.
