The ministry's Lands Branch has an exciting opportunity for a creative, energetic and motivated public servant to fill the position of Director, Land Management and Permitting.
Reporting to the Executive Director, this position provides strategic leadership to managers, senior ecological management specialists and a team of ecological management specialists to conduct ecological review of industrial projects while also overseeing the administration and allocation of Crown resource lands. This position provides leadership and oversight for the ministry's interaction with the oil, gas and mineral exploration industries, among others. This includes identifying and developing strategies to address environmental issues associated with continued and accelerated development and growth.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responding to industry permitting needs across the province in oil, gas, and mineral exploration industries by leading a geographically dispersed team.
- Establish and direct a Land Management Service Model across the unit with consistency and flexibility in response to client and stakeholder needs providing direction on complex client inquiries, industry plans and government priorities.
- Provide leadership and oversee the ministry's interaction with industry stakeholders, including identifying and developing strategies to address environmental issues associated with continued and accelerated development and growth.
- Assess the effectiveness of processes and environmental protection measures, meeting with an evolving industry with increased needs to resolve issues and identifying/developing process efficiencies and maintaining effective communication with industry as well as other regulatory agencies in the province.
- Lead the strategic development and implementation of a structured legislative, policy and procedural structure related to ecological review and Crown resource land management.
- Management of the enterprise Crown Land Management System, it's connection with Energy and Resources IRIS system, as well as directing the development of modern electronic solutions/tools.
- Authorizes compliance actions for stakeholders not adhering to legislative and regulatory requirements and recommends summary charges.
Typically, the knowledge for this position would be attained through a graduate degree in public policy, administration and/or related field of study as well as several years of leadership experience in the public sector, or an equivalent.

- Experience with operational planning, human resource management and legislative and regulatory processes.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, which are essential as you work across the division and ministry on various initiatives, and which will help develop and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders and other federal and provincial regulators.
- The ability to clearly communicate complex issues both verbally and in writing is critical for success in this role.
- The ability to develop a network to support cross-government collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
