Required
- Post-Secondary School Education in medical secretary/medical transcription or equivalent combination of education (minimum of grade 12) and relative working experience.
- Medical Terminology course completed through a recognized college.
- Must have demonstrated typing and other basic clerical skills including computer/word processing, e-mail and faxing experience.
- For internal candidates, disciplinary and attendance records will be considered.
Duties
- Answers telephones, takes and delivers messages, screens and re-routes calls: contacts individuals within and outside the hospital as necessary.
- Ensures the security and confidentiality of all departmental files.
- Prepares examinations for interpretation by providing previous exams when available and updating and documenting all appropriate information in diagnostic folders/envelopes.
- Files and retrieves diagnostic records in the designated areas.
- Purges files as per departmental policy.
- Retrieves and separates, by area, all patients’ files scheduled for a given study, daily.
- Provides OR, all clinics, physicians and external organizations with requested images and information.
- Receptionist duties including distributing daily mail and scheduling patient appointments.
- Registers patients for all Diagnostic Imaging exams.
- Directs patients and visitors to nursing units and other departments.
- Confirms patient HIS ADT/CPI demographics, billing & account status data.
- Dispenses appropriate preparations to patients as indicated by departmental protocol and/or physician orders.
- Executes the copying of files/records for physicians, patients etc. as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned from time to time.
