The Daycare Cook plays a key role in ensuring that all children receive nutritious, well-balanced meals and snacks that meet dietary needs and public health standards. The ideal candidate is organized, safety-conscious, and passionate about providing children with healthy food in a clean, welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious and age-appropriate meals and snacks for children in accordance with Canada's Food Guide and Public Health regulations.
- Develop and follow weekly meal plans, ensuring dietary restrictions and allergies are accommodated.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment in compliance with food safety standards.
- Perform daily cleaning duties, including dishwashing, sanitizing food prep areas, and maintaining cleanliness of kitchen equipment and storage areas.
- Maintain up-to-date records of food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and food inventory.
- Order groceries and supplies in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Follow all food handling and safety practices as outlined by the local Public Health Unit and licensing regulations.
- Prep and portion meals in advance to ensure smooth service during snack and meal times.
- Cooperate with educators and administration to coordinate meal schedules and classroom needs.
- Interact positively and respectfully with children, staff, and families to support a friendly and inclusive environment.
Qualifications:
- Valid Food Handler Certification.
- Vulnerable Sector Screening (current and satisfactory).
- Previous experience cooking in a daycare, school, or institutional kitchen (preferred).
- Knowledge of dietary needs and allergy management in a childcare setting.
- Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and cleaning standards.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Friendly, approachable, and respectful communication style.

Pay: $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
