West Horizon Contracting is located in Smithers, BC, we are currently seeking a mechanically inclined crusher operator with proficiency in operating heavy equipment, particularly tracked gravel jaw & cone crushers and excavator experience .
The daily responsibilities of this role include operating and maintaining the gravel crushers. screeners and/or equipment while ensuring its safety and compliance with environmental regulations.
In addition to adhering to safety protocols and completing checklists, time cards, and ticket submissions, the operator must also conduct regular maintenance inspections and promptly notify relevant personnel of any service or repair requirements.

Work locations are projects across the province, but we focus on Northern BC.
Annually the construction season work starts late April and early May but varies depending on spring conditions and work usually concludes in early November. However this position has the option to continue on through the winter to haul logs.
Our ideal candidate has numerous seasons of proven past experience operating gravel crushers and with significant heavy equipment operating experience. As well as, good communication skills, the ability to work well with others, and follow instructions, as well as good judgment in high-pressure situations, are vital to excel in this fast-paced, high-production environment.
The willingness to work extended hours including weekends when required is a must.
Responsibilities
The Crusher Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining mobile crushing and screening plants. This role is essential to our project aggregate production and involves the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of our crushing equipment.
Key Past Experience and Qualifications
- Operate mobile crushing and screening equipment safely and efficiently.
- Operate excavator and/or wheel loader to feed the crusher.
- Prepare for mobe and demobe of crusher equipment
- Perform daily inspections of equipment
- Monitor crushing / screening equipment to help troubleshoot mechanical issues and assist mechanics as needed
- Perform regular maintenance, screen changes, and minor repairs on crushing and screening equipment.
- Conveyor belt maintenance, including tracking, cleaning, and replacement.
- Report equipment malfunctions, near misses, and safety incidents
- Experience operating large size loaders considered an asset
- Experience with crushing operations in granular and hard rock materials
- Experience working with Metso/Keestrack mobile track units is an asset
- Willing and able to work physically in variable weather conditions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team is mandatory
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license
