SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Counselling Practice Supervisor oversees the counselling component of services provided to participants of BGC counselling programs. They provide counselling supervision and consultation to Coordinators, develop and provide training and workshops for Counselling staff, support and enhance the quality of BGC’s Counselling services and provide direct counselling and support to youth and families.
JOB DUTIES
Counselling Practice Supervision:
· Provides counselling supervision, training and consultation to Coordinators of the Counselling teams to develop and enhance their counselling supervision skills and ensure quality services.
· Provides guidance and support to Coordinators and their teams.
· Provides direct consultation to counsellors on complex cases as needed.
· Assists Coordinators in resolving counselling practice related performance issues.
· Supervises master’s level counselling staff (as per College requirements).
Training / Education:
· Participates in interviewing, orientation, and training of new Counselling program Coordinators.
· Identifies staff training needs across the Counselling programs and facilitates staff professional development.
· Develops in-house education opportunities and workshops that address training needs to build and enhance staff’s knowledge and counselling skills.
· Participates in the development of training workshops for other BGC staff as appropriate.
Quality Assurance:
· Remains up to date with current counselling best practices and theories.
· Ensures protocols and guidelines for BGC’s Counselling programs are based on best practices (and in accordance with BGC’s mission, policies, and procedures).
· Ensures all supervision and client records are accurate, maintained, and completed in conformance with BGC’s standards and accreditations.
· Supports in the preparation, completion and follow up required for BGC’s successful process in the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), in specific areas of their portfolio.
· Provides direct counselling service as required.
· Assists the Director in evaluating Coordinators’ counselling supervision practices.
REQUIREMENTS
· Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
· M.A. in counselling, social work, psychology, or related field.
· Registration with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) or Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) preferred.
· A minimum of 5 years of related experience in the counselling and support services sector working with youth and families.
· A minimum of 3 years’ experience leading and supervising a team.
· Demonstrated case management, counselling practice, team training and consultation skills.
· Knowledge of adolescent development and family dynamics.
· Experience working with youth who use substances, experience homelessness, or are involved with the justice system or MCFD.
· Knowledge of services for adolescents and families in the community.
· Experience with intervention strategies related to substance misuse, suicide prevention, abuse and neglect of children and youth, etc.
· Experience with relevant counselling techniques and therapies used with youth, families and caregivers.
· Experience in assessment and documentation.
· Excellent organizational skills with the ability to set goals and prioritize.
· Excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills.
· Personal maturity, sound judgment, and the ability to deal tactfully with sensitive issues.
· A flexible, self-motivated team player.
· Sensitivity towards cultural, religious, and gender-based diversity.
This is a regular part-time (22.5 hrs./week) position starting at $45,045 per annum , with group benefits at six months, pension after one year, three weeks paid vacation leave in first year, paid sick and personal leave, paid birthday off and up to 5 days statutory holiday substitution days per year to celebrate/recognize religious, cultural, and/or personal days that are important to the employee where those days are not currently recognized as statutory holidays in BC/Canada).
