Make history in this exciting role overseeing core heritage programming at Fort Edmonton Park. Bring your creativity, experience and passion to lead a strong and dynamic team making lifelong memories for Park guests.

This position oversees public and education programming focused on the Museum operation of the park. This includes operation of the Public Interpretation Department including the development and implementation of the core programs and historical interpretation of the Park.

Education programs including field trips, group programs, day camps and Fort School. The Volunteer Program also lives in the Core Programs portfolio overseeing over 1000 volunteers serving core outcomes and other park duties. Research and historical content development, as well as building and fostering community relationships that support the development of programs are a critical component of this position and ensures the Park maintains Fort Edmonton Park’s museum certification.

What will you do?

  • Manage development and delivery of general admission season, Interpretation, Educational programs and events, Volunteer programs
  • Research, develop, interpret, customize, implement programming plans for Fort Edmonton Park based on needs assessment, trends, input from staff/volunteers/visitors/non-visitors, demographics, and arising issues
  • Oversee development of relationships with parties, community members, contributors, partners and other departments. Provides professional advice and leadership in collaborative program development
  • Supervise direct reports and larger team; Human Resources processes including performance management, role development, recruitment, promotion and relationship building
  • Consult and direct strategic planning for Core Programs, including development of goals and objectives, visioning, problem solving processes, active collaboration, and needs assessments
  • Develop, interpret and implement policies and procedures
  • Develop resources and processes to structure execution
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • University degree in Arts, Recreation, Business or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in the recreation field, with a demonstrated ability in program development, staff supervision, volunteer management, Education and Interpretation
  • Experience developing relationships with external partners
  • Experience in strategic program development, delivery and implementation for complex organizations

Assets:

  • Experience with Heritage and Museum program and asset management
  • Knowledge of museum best practice, volunteer management best practice
  • Experience and proven skill in heritage Interpretation
  • Experience working in a museum environment

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance

Up to 1 temporary full-time position for up to 18 months in accordance with Article 18.02 of the Collective Agreement

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

Salary Range: $41.841 - $52.537 (Hourly); $87,376.540 - $109,697.260 (Annually)

Salary ranges are in the process of being updated in accordance with the recently ratified collective agreement between the City and CSU 52 and will be forthcoming shortly.
