Calgary French & International School (CFIS) is a full French language immersion co-educational independent school, serving over 820 students from junior preschool through to Grade 12. CFIS is seeking a Cook for our Cafeteria division for the 2025-2026 school year. The Cook is part of a strong group of employees dedicated to providing nutritious lunches and snacks that help our students reach their full academic potential.
Job Description:
CFIS is now accepting applications for one (1) part-time Cook position.
Responsibilities include:
- Adhering to Alberta’s safe food handling guidelines in maintaining a clean and organized workspace, including the dishwasher room, and daily temperature recordkeeping.
- Ensuring both cafeteria dining halls are prepared according to AHS standards for daily food service.
- Washing, cutting, and preparing ingredients, and cooking food according to recipes or instructions.
- Measuring correct quantities for serving sizes in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide and in adherence to a pre-determined budget.
- Ensuring all food is available for the daily menu item.
- Preparing necessary food for the next day’s menu item.
- Serving the students and staff.
- Inventory management.
- Acting as Cashier for concession, when needed.
- Washing and sanitizing dishes in the cafeteria’s dishwasher room, using Alberta Health Service approved method for commercial dishwashing appliances and the ‘3 sink method’ where needed.
- Maintaining the weekly sanitation check list.
- Maintaining laundry; washing and drying dishcloths, towels, and aprons.
- Ensuring laundry inventory is ready for the next food service day.
- Assisting in the dining hall when necessary.
- Working efficiently, independently and as part of the team.
- Assisting in receiving cafeteria supply deliveries, when needed.
- Attending work-related training sessions as required.
- Working extra occasional after-hours may be available for school sponsored events.
- Other duties as needed.

Qualifications:
- Fluency in French would be an asset.
- Strong English skills are required.
- A minimum of Emergency First Aid Level B childcare certification (or willing to obtain).
- AHS Food Safety Provincial Certification.
- The mini-course is required and can be complete online.
The successful applicant will need to provide a recent Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to commencing work.
Compensation:
- The position is paid hourly at $18.75 per hour.
- The Cook will have a regular six (6) hour shift per day 8:00am to 2:00 pm on School Days.
- The position is eligible for employee group benefits and the Level 1 – 3% RSP (Retirement Saving Plan) benefit.
- Two (2) weeks off in December, one (1) week off in each February and March, and in the summer when the school is closed.
