Overview
Secwépemc Child and Family Services Agency (SCFSA) is seeking a Public Relations and Communications Consultant to lead communications for two innovative housing initiatives: the Rapid Response Living Space Pilot Project and the Transitional Living Space Pilot Project, both funded by the National Indigenous Collaborative Housing Inc. (NICHI). These projects aim to support vulnerable First Nations children, youth, and families in urban Kamloops from our seven member Secwépemc Communities, as well as those who are away from home. The successful candidate will support strategic communications, public awareness, and community engagement and must have experience in the communications sector to be considered for this opportunity.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
· Must have a university degree in communications or a related field.
· Minimum 2-4 years of communications or public relations experience, those with Indigenous-led initiatives or housing/prevention-focused programs may be given preference.
· A combination of education and experience will be considered.
· Demonstrated skill in creating clear, engaging, and culturally respectful communications for diverse audiences.
· Experience working with First Nations organizations, media outlets, and community stakeholders, an asset.
· Familiarity with Secwépemc territory and culture is an asset.
· Ability to manage deadlines and deliverables with minimal supervision.
Scope of Work - The successful contractor will:
· Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to promote the NICHI Living Spaces Pilot Projects.
· Create messaging that highlights the community need, innovation, and impact of the Rapid Response and Transitional Living Space models.
· Produce content for public education and media engagement (e.g., press releases, project brochures, digital campaigns).
· Coordinate with project staff, leadership, and external partners to ensure accurate and culturally respectful messaging.
· Support internal communication tools for SCFSA staff and community partners.
· Develop a plan for documenting and sharing stories of lived experience, service success, and lessons learned.
Deliverables - By October 31, 2025, the contractor will deliver:
· A NICHI Pilot Project communications strategy and engagement plan.
· At least three media/public education products (e.g., press release, info sheet, story feature, social media campaign).
· A communications toolkit for SCFSA staff, including key messages, branding guidelines, and FAQs.
· A visual communications product (e.g., one-pager or infographic) for funders and stakeholders.
· A final summary report outlining communications outcomes, reach, and future recommendations.
