Summary
The Community Initiatives Coordinator is responsible for providing direct supervision and leadership to YMCA community initiatives, including programs for youth and adults with exceptionalities. Working closely with the Facility Host & Community Initiatives Coordinator, this role ensures that community-based programs operate effectively, grow sustainably, and remain responsive to local needs.
The Coordinator oversees program development, supports staff and volunteers, and builds strong relationships with partners and participants. By fostering inclusive, safe, and welcoming spaces, this role contributes to the YMCA’s mission of building healthy, connected communities where everyone belongs.
Duties
- Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for YMCA community initiatives, including programs for youth and adults with exceptionalities.
- Collaborate with program staff to plan, deliver, and evaluate community initiatives.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with community organizations and stakeholders.
- Support recruitment efforts for program participation, in collaboration with marketing and communications.
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to staff and volunteers, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Manage program budgets, projections, and reporting requirements, ensuring accountability and transparency.
- Prepare and submit outcome and output reports as required.
- Facilitate and develop Be You 2SLGBTQ+ inclusive programming and ensure accessibility across all initiatives.
- Step in to provide direct program support when staff are unavailable.
- Recruit, engage, and support volunteers, ensuring they have the resources and training to succeed.
- Ensure program delivery aligns with YMCA values, policies, and safety standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Human Services, Program Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in community program development, delivery, and staff supervision.
- Demonstrated success in team building, leadership, and volunteer engagement.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple programs simultaneously.
- Knowledge and experience working with individuals of varying abilities, identities,
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant computer applications.
- Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Screening, and Social Development Check (required as a condition of employment).
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Bilingualism (English/French) considered a strong asset.
