PavCo is the owner and operator of two of Canada’s premier venues for events, BC Place Stadium and the Vancouver Convention Centre.
Under Shared Services, the Vancouver Convention Centre (VCC) is seeking an energetic and creative Communications Specialist to help deliver VCC’s internal and external communications strategies and assets for the overall organization.
In this role, you will report to the Senior Communications Manager and will be accountable for supporting the delivery of our communications strategies, with a strong focus on internal communications to our team members and external communications to media and stakeholders.
This is a great role for a compelling writer and strategic thinker who is early in their career and looking to grow and build their experience in an exciting and dynamic corporate communications role.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Support the delivery of our internal and external communications strategies for VCC and PavCo overall.
- Assist in the planning, development, and execution of internal communications initiatives to foster employee engagement, alignment, and a strong internal culture.
- Contribute to the redevelopment and ongoing improvement of both internal and external communications assets, including presentations, brochures, signage, and digital content, developing and maintaining consistency with brand standards.
- Assist in crafting compelling narratives that showcase VCC’s unique value and world-class offerings, delivering and supporting content across multiple channels (e.g., intranet, media, social media and website) to build brand affinity among diverse audiences.
- Serve as the on-site communications contact for select events (occasional evening and weekend work required), supporting operational staff, managing media and any potential issues by coordinating messaging, in addition to ensuring consistent representation of the venue's brand during live activations.
- Assist with proactive and reactive media relations, including preparing media materials, pitching stories, and coordinating interviews, FAM trips and site visits.
- Stay informed on emerging trends, best practices, and innovations within the communications, tourism, events, and convention industries.
- Work collaboratively with the VCC Marketing team to support the development and execution of integrated campaigns, contributing to content for social media, digital advertising, and website updates that align with overall brand and business goals.
- Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure consistent and impactful messaging across all communications touchpoints, both internally and externally.
- Provide communications support for government relations activities, including the development of briefing materials, messaging documents, and stakeholder
- Other duties, projects and tasks as may be assigned by the Senior Communications Manager, VCC.
- Completion of a university degree in communications or a related area of study, or a combination of education and experience.
- Two or more years of relevant experience in corporate communications and knowledge of communications best practices and principles.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic communications planning, employee communications and developing presentations.
- Experience in media relations, pitch development, key message development and issues management is an asset.
- Creativity and compelling storytelling, with the initiative to proactively seek out new ideas for internal and external communications content.
- Strong writing skills and proven ability to create clear, concise messaging for various audiences.
- A curious mind, with the ability to learn quickly and the desire to take on whatever work is sent your way.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to work under pressure.
- A team-oriented mindset with a willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the work done with your colleagues.
- A sound working knowledge of a wide variety of software applications including Microsoft Office, internet communications and social media platforms.
