About Us


The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of seven Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Food and Nutritional Sciences), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and five Research Centres. The Faculty has more than 4,500 undergraduate students and more than 900 graduate students (200 PhD students).

Responsibilities


The Communications Coordinator (Web) will be responsible for implementing the Faculty’s web strategy with a goal of building and promoting the Faculty of Health Sciences locally, nationally, and internationally. Working closely with the Faculty’s Communications Manager and Web Strategy Specialist, the Communications Coordinator will implement projects and complete updates across the Faculty’s seven Schools and five Research Centre websites, liaising with Faculty of Health Sciences researchers and staff. The Communications Coordinator will protect, promote and enhance the reputation of the University and its people by delivering concise, accurate information that is consistent with all of Western's applicable guidelines.

Qualifications


Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in marketing, communications, computer science or a related field, with courses taken in website design

Experience:

  • 2 years’ experience in communications or marketing with an emphasis on website design, preferably in an academic research environment
  • Experience using content management systems (such as Cascade)
  • Experience managing websites and working with leaders to make changes and build pages that exceed specific needs
  • Experience with Web Applications and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 is preferred
  • Experience managing multiple websites under one unit would be an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of image and graphic manipulation/editing and with e-communication tools including website and graphic design principles
  • Knowledge of the principles of writing, including grammar and style, argument and coherence
  • Project management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and perform well under pressure
  • Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
  • Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
  • Ability to analyze metrics and consider past communications to craft engaging written communications using websites or other appropriate channels
  • Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
  • Ability to apply creativity and recommend strategies for engagement initiatives in response to best practices and trends
  • Ability to produce high-quality results and workable solutions that meet Faculty needs
  • Ability to remain highly motivated, resilient, innovative, and collaborative when faced with challenges
  • Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite with the ability to learn and use relevant software that achieves required outcomes and is in line with best practices
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple assignments that are accurate and thorough, with an ability to manage complex and competing priorities
  • Team player with the ability to work collaboratively and actively contribute in meetings and in team settings
  • Familiarity with university research policies and practices preferred
  • Familiarity with university policies and procedures preferred
