Position Description
Reporting to the Executive Chef Manager, The Cold Production Aide will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operational needs of Hospitality Services, which includes Production, Catering and Terrace Café.
Shift: 0600 - 1400 hrs
Although this posting indicates an initial area of assignment and shift, the Hospital reserves the right to assign to other areas of assignment and shifts as deemed necessary.
Here's what you'll get to do
- Responsible for creating recipes, preparation, and presentation of various food items, specifically focused on cold menu items, such as salads, sandwiches, garnishes, spreads, dressings, etc. Daily food preparations for the Cafeteria and Catering.
- Provide high quality services while maintaining safe food handling techniques and sanitary practices and procedures, as well as having practical knowledge of food safety standards and practices, WHMIS and Health and Safety.
- Responsible to maintain dietary and food standards for quality and quantity controls, portion control, and presentation techniques with all food and non-food products.
- Assist and work alongside fellow co-workers to achieve smooth and efficient operations within the overall food services areas.
Here's what you'll need
- 1-year basic cooking/culinary course with graduate certificate of completion at a community college or technical school required.
- Must have current Food Handler Certification.
- Experience working in a kitchen, such a production kitchen in a hotel, restaurant, catering kitchen, and/or fast paced kitchen environment, specifically in a hospitality field.
- Knowledge of basic culinary techniques, such as different methods of preparing foods, including cutting techniques, recipe calculations, understanding of various dietary types and restrictions thereof.
- Knowledge of dietary restrictions required.
- Computer skills and knowledge is required.
- High degree of customer service.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and in a team setting.
- Proficient oral and written communication in English.
- Ability to work out and practice simple math skills.
- Smart Serve an asset.
