Reports to: Director of Professional Practice, Toronto Rehab and Transitional Care Programs
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Shifts: Day shift
Status: Permanent Full-Time

Position Summary
The Clinical Nurse Specialist, Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Care, with a specialty-based focus, will function in an advanced nursing role, demonstrating a high level of autonomy and clinical expertise to formulate decisions, manage acute and chronic conditions, and promote wellness for patients and their families within the Complex Continuing Care program at Toronto Rehab, Bickle Centre. This role involves advanced clinical decision-making and leadership in nursing practice. The Clinical Nurse Specialist serves as a leader and change agent, supporting the implementation of best practices and the advancement of nursing standards
Duties
- Utilize and demonstrate comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in caring for patients with complex wounds, including collecting and interpreting data about the health of the patient, managing complex responses of individuals and families to actual or potential problems;
- Build point of care staff capacity to manage complex wound, ostomy and continence issues;
- Play a leadership role and perform quality improvement activities;
- Participate in policy and procedure development; perform research activities;
- Deliver, coordinate and participate in education and professional development activities/programs;
- Perform activities to further develop and strengthen the profession;
- Act as a resource and serving as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community and other hospital/agencies;
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
Qualifications
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and able to practice nursing without restrictions
- Completion of a masters degree in Nursing or recognized equivalent
- NSWOCC certification required
- Five (5) years experience in a tertiary care or complex continuing care setting
- Change leadership experience
- Experience in research & QI methodology an asset
- Eligible for cross-appointment with the University of Toronto
- Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) and other organizations relevant to the role
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent coaching and mentoring skills
- Effective interpersonal and customer services skills
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem solving skills
- Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills
