Who we need
The Claims Examiner will be accountable to assess claims for benefit entitlement by adhering to contractual, medical, functional, and occupational information to render claim decisions according to contract and established processes. In compliance with the instructions and defined internal/external policies and procedures, you will deliver the decision in a timely manner, while providing exceptional service to the different stakeholders.
What you will do
- Responsible for assessing claims for benefit entitlement (Life, AD&D, Disability, Critical Illness and Job Loss), by reviewing contractual, medical, functional and occupational information and in accordance with certificate provisions, adhering to established routines and processes for our various clients;
- Follow up with diligent communications with the different stakeholders, to obtain or provide information regarding claim status and reasoning, and complete reporting as required;
- Thoroughly document the analysis according to Securian’s policies and processes;
- Effectively manage an active caseload in accordance with client service standards and best practice guidelines and established KPI’s and TAT’s;
- Contribute to and foster a positive and dynamic working environment by supporting team members and through collaboration to department project work, and with plan members, plan sponsors and other stakeholders, to ensure service standards are met;
- Learn and apply tools and technology that support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve processes and customer service delivery and adapting to changes as improvements are implemented;
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
What you will bring
- Post-secondary education (or equivalent work experience); professional designations such as FLHC, FLMI, or ALHC are an asset;
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- Previous experience in claims is preferred, background in medical assessment, underwriting, nursing/health professions, or medical terminology is highly valued;
- Strong analytical skills combined with a sound understanding of insurance practices and principles, enabling effective problem-solving;
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy and delivering high-quality service;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, both written and verbal;
- Proven ability to manage stressful situations with professionalism and to communicate difficult decisions with empathy and tact;
- Skilled at multitasking complex priorities while meeting deadlines and ensuring positive outcomes for all stakeholders;
- A positive, team-oriented attitude that contributes to strong morale and collaboration.
