REGENT PARK COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE
We are a dynamic community-based health centre promoting social justice and health equity in the Regent Park neighbourhood and Downtown East area of Toronto. We operate out of several locations and provide a wide variety of services including: primary health care, chiropody, physiotherapy, health promotion, social work, community health, immigrant and refugee services, harm reduction and homeless programs, addiction and recovery services, Pathways to Education, infant and child development programs, parenting programs, and youth employment services.
Chiropodist
Permanent Full-time Position, 35 hours per week
Hourly Range: $37.36 - $45.01, plus Benefits including HOOPP Pension
Job Summary:
As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the Chiropodist serves a high density, low income, multi-cultural, inner-city community by providing professional services in the following areas: direct patient care, treating and managing care of patients with foot disorders, health promotion and education, advocacy and community development.
Specific Duties Include:
Treats and manages the care of patients with foot disorders by:
- Taking, recording and utilizing a complete and accurate chiropody and relevant medical history.
- Performing a physical examination of the lower extremities for diagnostic purposes;
- Utilizing appropriate diagnostic aids in order to determine the existence and extent of an abnormality or pathology;
- Obtaining, submitting and requisitioning laboratory tests on specimens from the skin or nails;
- Performing treatments, including local anaesthesia and nail surgery where indicated;
- Prescribing and designing orthotics where indicated;
- Advocating on an individual basis for and with patients to other agencies and institutions;
- Ensuring and maintaining personal and environmental hygiene including instrument sterilization;
Provides health promotion/education to individuals and to groups by:
- Providing foot health education in a variety of settings (e.g. Health Fairs, presentations to seniors, etc.) for patients, community groups and other allied professionals; and
- Communicating and demonstrating the methods and means of preventing foot abnormalities and disease processes by using sound, understandable educational methods and reinforcing patient responsibility and compliance.
Required Skills Knowledge and Ability:
- Certification as a Chiropodist eligible to work in the Province of Ontario,
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience is required, preferably in a community health setting working with marginalized and street-involved populations
- Skills in making and modifying orthotics, and performing minor surgeries, are assets
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Experience using Electronic Health Record system. Experience with Nightingale on Demand or PS Suites is an asset
- Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse client population including people who are homeless/street-involved and people with mental health and/or addictions issues
- Familiarity and commitment to Anti-Oppressive, Anti-Discriminatory, and Harm Reduction frameworks
- Knowledge of Regent Park area and issues affecting families living within Regent Park and Moss Park areas
- Must be fully vaccinated for covid 19, for the protection of clients and staff
