Vegedelight Vegetarian Restaurant Markham is seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have experience in the food industry, with a strong understanding of food safety and preparation techniques. Additionally, candidates must be proficient in using a wok for Chinese-style cooking, including stir-frying and tossing ingredients. As a Cook, you will play a crucial role in preparing high-quality dishes that meet our standards of taste and presentation. Your ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment will contribute to the success of our restaurant.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to established recipes and menu specifications
- Use a wok for Chinese-style cooking, including stir-frying and tossing ingredients with precision and skill
- Ensure all food handling and preparation practices comply with health and safety regulations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including cooking equipment and utensils
- Assist in meal preparation, such as chopping, slicing, and marinating ingredients
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely service during peak hours
- Monitor food inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed
- Follow proper food storage procedures to minimize waste and ensure freshness
- Help train new kitchen staff on food preparation techniques and safety protocols
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a restaurant or food service environment is preferred
- Must have proficiency in using a wok for Chinese-style cooking, including stir-frying and ingredient tossing
- Knowledge of food handling practices and safety regulations is essential
- Familiarity with various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- A passion for cooking and creating high-quality meals is highly desirable
- Must have a valid Canadian work permit, PR, or citizenship
- Fluency in Chinese is preferred for effective communication with the team
