CHILD & YOUTH WORKER
Job Summary: The Child & Youth Worker provides diverse opportunities for children and youth living in Northeast and Argyle communities. The Child & Youth Worker is responsible for the development and facilitation of programming that focuses on four key areas: Relationships & Inclusion, Leadership & Community Engagement, Education & Skill Building, and Healthy Eating & Physical Activity. Programming will focus on 6-12 year olds as well as 13-19 year olds
Reporting: The Child & Youth Worker will report directly to LUSO’s Executive Director. This position will work closely with other LUSO team members of the Children, Youth and Families division, as well as other community partners and stakeholders.
Position Details: This is a full time position at 37.5 hours per week. Programming is provided in-person at various community locations. The candidate must be available to work early evenings ( 3-4 per week) and 4-6 Saturday’s per year (usually 3-4 hours).
This position is working with children and youth and requires flexibility to accommodate newly identified needs. Expected start date: September 15, 2025
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create, plan, and facilitate a variety weekly programs to meet the needs of children and youth within NE London and Argyle area. Some programming may be in partnership with other LUSO staff members.
- Organize community events for youth that provides opportunities for community engagement, volunteerism and leadership development
- Conduct outreach activities to inform children, youth and families about programs and services
- Nurture community pride amongst youth through activities and events- ie. Community Clean-up days, Fall Festival, Pride Parade etc.,
- Manage day to day operational aspects of the various programs
- Act as a resource to various committees and participate in community group meetings
- Supervision of student placements and summer staff
- Full administrative duties associated with program such as preparing reports, maintaining statistics, evaluation, community meetings etc.
- Proposal and grant development to enhance programming as well as new program development
- Performs other duties as assigned by direct Supervisor to achieve program outcomes
- Constructive participation as a member of the LUSO staff team by furthering collective team goals and representing the principles and values of LUSO Community Services in all interaction with others
- Operate in accordance with policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols of LUSO Community Services,
- Represents the principles and values of LUSO Community Services
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree or Diploma in the Human Services field of study- Child & Youth Care, SSW etc.
- Demonstrated experience in working with children and youth; minimum 2 years
- Demonstrated experience delivering programs in a community based setting
- Knowledge around community development and engagement strategies
- Excellent program development and planning skills
- Must be self-directed, able to work independently as well as within a multi- disciplinary team environment
- Demonstrated leadership skills, strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with report writing, maintaining statistics, program evaluation
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills
- Knowledge of community agencies and resources to support program delivery
- Experience working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
- Experience with outreach activities and strategies to reach diverse groups
- Experience in supervision of part-time staff and student placements in a non-profit setting.
- Experience with report writing, maintaining statistics etc.,
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Well defined computer skills such as Microsoft Office, Internet
- Clearance through a Vulnerable Populations Police Screening process ( must obtain before commencing employment)
- Possess valid CPR & First Aid certification ( must obtain before commencing employment)
- Valid driver’s license and access to a (programming happens off site and materials are transported to various locations)
Salary Range: $24.00-$26.00 per hour
In addition to statutory holidays throughout the year and personal vacation time, employees will have paid sick time, and paid winter shut down between Christmas and New Year. Additionally, LUSO offers a comprehensive Health and Dental package to its permanent employees.
