Overview
The Library Technician assists students and teachers, manages resources, and maintains an organized environment. This position requires a blend of technical skills, people skills, and a passion for literature and information management. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children ages 5-13, be detail-oriented and possess strong communication skills to effectively interact with students and staff.
Duties
- Assist students and staff in locating and utilizing library resources, including books, databases, and digital materials.
- Manage the circulation desk, including checking in and out materials, processing returns, and handling fines.
- Prepare and lead literacy activities with classrooms
- Maintain accurate filing systems for both physical and digital resources to ensure easy access to information.
- Conduct data entry tasks to update library records and maintain databases efficiently.
- Support research efforts by providing guidance on available resources and assisting with data collection.
- Organize events, programs, and workshops that promote literacy and community engagement including the book fair (twice a school year)
- Perform routine maintenance of library materials, including purchasing and cataloging new acquisitions and repairing damaged items.
- Utilize computer skills to manage library software systems and assist patrons with technology-related inquiries.
Qualifications
- A university degree or college diploma in Library Technology OR significant experience and skills related to the position.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent customer service skills to provide a welcoming environment for all library users.
- Proficient typing skills for accurate data entry and record management.
- Solid communication skills for effective interaction with students and staff.
- Experience or familiarity with databases for information retrieval is preferred.
- Basic research skills to assist patrons in finding relevant information efficiently.
- Writing skills are beneficial for creating instructional materials or promotional content related to library services. This position is ideal for individuals who are enthusiastic about libraries, enjoy working in a collaborative environment, and have a desire to help others access information effectively.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.01-$28.08 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 35 per week
