Casual Food Services Aide
Bar-V-Nook Lodge: Smoky Lake, Alberta

Hours of Work: 0630h to 1500h or 0930h to 1800h
Wage: $19.78 per hour

Job Role
Reporting to the Head Cook and/or designate, the Food Services Aide performs a variety of duties for supporting the cook with food preparation and cleaning the dining
room, washing dishes, re-stocking supplies and setting tables.
Job Duties
1. Meal preparations
2. Assist the cook with
meal preparation such as peeling and chopping vegetables, serving, or plating food, preparing sandwiches
and resident snack items.
3. Cleaning and
sanitizing dining room tables and chairs, setting tables, clearing tables after meals.
4. Dishwashing and
sanitizing of dishware, glassware, cutlery, pots, pans, and utensils.
5. Daily cleaning and
sanitizing of utility carts, food services equipment, storage areas,
refrigerators, coolers. Sweeping and mopping kitchen floor. Restocking supplies in the dining room and other
service areas
6. To provide
excellent service to residents
7. To prepare healthy,
appealing meals and ensuring proper amounts for all residents
8. To fill out menu
change forms and calendar whenever changes to menus are made.
9. To prepare dessert
for next meal (i.e., early cook
prepares dessert for supper meal and later cook prepares for next day’s noon meal.)
10. To ensure your work
area is clean and any spills are cleaned up immediately.
11. To complete all
duties on checklist and initial
12. To work with Head Cook to ensure
ordering is complete
13. To report all
faulty equipment to maintenance immediately and fill out equipment
14. repair form
15. To report any
concerns or conflicts to Head Cook
16. To follow all
Health and Safety Policies, safe work practices and procedures
17. To follow all
Homeland Housing’s Policies and Procedures
18. To maintain confidentiality for all private information made available to him/her regarding the residents and staff.
19. Attend in-services and meetings, whenever possible and obtain/reads copy of the minutes of all meetings.
20. To perform any other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Education, Training, and Experience
· Food Handling Course is preferred
· Knowledge of all commercial kitchen equipment (convection oven, steamer, large industrial mixers and meat slicers) required
· Previous experience in a hospitality, hotel setting or supportive living setting.
· Basic computer skills – Microsoft Outlook and excel required
· Previous experience in a leadership role
Skills and Abilities
· Effective, respectful verbal and written communication.
· Knowledge of and capability to complete tasks relating to kitchen and cooking.
· Multitasking and prioritizing work tasks to accommodate operational needs.
· Ability to work under pressure and effectively troubleshoot and solve problems.
· Ability to work well with others as well as independently.
· Strong commitment to resident customer service and promoting teamwork and partnerships.
· Demonstrates initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.
· Must be mentally and physically fit to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position; and
· Must be responsible for maintaining self-wellness and reduced absenteeism.
