Position Summary:

Independence Apartments is a Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) that is funded by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) and operated by enCompass Community Safety Agency. The CRF houses approximately 35 federal offenders on various forms of Conditional Release. Our goal is to assist and support clients in their transition from incarceration to community living. The CRF is double/triple staffed at all times to allow staff the opportunity to promote pro-social and healthy lifestyles using various methods including but not limited to, ongoing monitoring/reporting of client behavior, assessing the risks and needs of clients, accurate referrals to treatment centers/community resources as required.

The Caseworker, will work with residents on their assigned caseload to promote pro-social and healthy lifestyles using various methods including but not limited to, ongoing monitoring/reporting of client behaviour, assessing the risks and needs of clients, completing accurate referrals to treatment centers/community resources as required, and assisting clients in the development and implementation of SMART goals. Caseworkers are part of a Case Management Team which consists of a Parole Officer and where applicable, could include Edmonton Police Officers, RCMP and/or Program Facilitators. The Case Management Team’s role is to aid in all aspects of client care in hopes of a successful release.


Responsibilities:

  • Regularly meet with, observe, and document resident behaviour, progress or deterioration, both within the CBRF and in the community
  • Delivery of services in a client-centred, strength-based approach
  • Maintain file and supervision standards set by the Agency and Correctional Services Canada
  • Liaison with Parole Officers, Edmonton City Police, and various other treatment professionals
  • Attend client case conferences, unit, and agency meetings, and staff training
  • Goal setting with clients that is specific to risk factors and complements their special conditions of release
  • Completion of accurate written documentation, data collection/entry, intakes, and assessments
  • Ensure services are being delivered in accordance with Agency and program Policies and Procedures
  • Contribute to a positive culture by assisting and supporting colleagues as needed and encourage, mentor, and teach others about the program's operations


Qualifications / Skills:

  • Diploma in a related human services field
  • Experience working with high-risk individuals and/or high-needs populations
  • Ability to understand the dynamics of clients’ behaviour and assess their needs and risks
  • Ability to maintain composure and effectively manage crises
  • Strong communication and pro-social relationship-building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a mental health population
  • Strong work ethic, high degree of integrity, and takes pride in their work.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification
  • Criminal Record Check, Enhanced Reliability Screening and Canada Border Services Agency Clearance is required.


Conditions of Employment:

  • This is a permanent position
  • Hours of work are Monday-Friday, alternating weekly between 06:45-15:00 and 14:45-23:00
  • Must participate in a shift rotation
  • The position requires frequent standing, walking up and down stairs, and occasional lifting.


Salary:

  • The salary range for this position is $52,020 to $61,383 annually.
