Are you passionate about walking alongside women on their journey to recovery—bringing hope, healing, and Christ’s love every step of the way?

The Case Manager is responsible for the women in the Cedar Haven Stabilization & Recovery program from intake to discharge. This position makes the first contact with those who have been referred to Cedar Haven and conduct interviews; provide tours; introduce new participants to the Program; update ETO; assist with intake/discharge tasks and orientation. You will create and maintain networks with external partnering organizations, and will regularly attend meetings with other external service providers. You work with participants individually in order to increase the likelihood of success for recovery and/or independent living while ensuring adherence to program guidelines and policies. The Case Manager performs client assessments to gather information and identify areas of concern, helps participants develop plans for next steps, connects them with appropriate resources and may even advocate on their behalf with government agencies or external service providers.


The Case Manager takes a faith-based approach, which includes ministering to these women, forming relationships, loving them, praying, declaring the good news of Jesus Christ and making disciples, as well as assisting with practical needs such as referrals for recovery, program involvement, and housing. In addition, this position may plan and lead a devotion or group sessions and teach classes, and may be required to give direction to junior staff from time-to-time.


This is a permanent, full-time position. The starting range for this position is $28.96 to $31.64 per hour.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Model Christ in word and deed.

Case Management (40%)

  • Assist participants in establishing goals, monitoring progress, and preparing a case plan for their next steps (housing, employment, addiction services, life skills, health, education or other case specific needs) and refer them to the appropriate community resources for achieving these goals, using various tools, programs, and training to facilitate.
  • Document all relevant case notes and maintain accurate case files and records for future reference.

Intake/Discharge (10%)

  • Analyze, screen, interview, and process all intake applicants.
  • First point of contact upon arrival. Complete paperwork, introduce and orient to the new building and complete/assist bed bug protocol, key system etc.
  • Assists each participant with discharge, including research, referrals, and administrative support.

Program Support (30%)

  • Provide care, direct consultation and spiritual guidance to participants who reside at the Sanctuary, which includes providing appropriate support for their emotional needs and practical requests as needed. Build strong relationships with participants and encourage them to explore Christianity and recovery as per their goals.
  • Lead group sessions, classes, motivational devotions and/or Bible studies as required.
  • Take an active role in proactively and re-actively defusing and deescalating aggressive situations, along with monitoring sobriety of the participants and visitors, and reporting to the supervisor.
  • Be knowledgeable of all the material documented in the Sanctuary Stabilization & Recovery Program handbook, as well as related documentation, and apply it consistently.
  • Build relationships with these participants and encourage them to explore Christianity, including facilitating a devotional when required.

Advocacy (10%)

  • Advocate for participants, providing needs assessments, coaching, skills training and crisis management. Cultivate community contacts.
  • Partner with outside agencies, government ministries, individuals, and families, including meetings on and off-site regarding the current and future well-being of the Sanctuary participants and their babes.

General (10%)

  • Participate in staff meetings, training and spiritual development opportunities, and perform other duties as required by your Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as required by your supervisor.
  • Adhere to all UGM published policies, practices and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Cover absences within the Sanctuary Program staff as needed, which includes the following duties:
  • Social Worker: assist participants to obtain needed services and support to increase the likelihood of success for recovery and/or independent living; schedule and record minutes of ongoing interagency meetings with participants, family members, Child Protection Social Workers and community supports; advocate on behalf of participants with agencies and external service providers; and model nurturing mothering skills.
  • Case Manager: assist participants with practical needs, including referrals for recovery, program involvement and housing; provide support and spiritual care to participants, which may include advocating for them and providing crisis management.
  • Resident Care Coordinator: accompany participants to their required recovery meetings; support participants in their participation of other recovery-related events, including scheduled outings and gym activities.
  • Care Team Coordinator: provide extra support, but not supervision, to the Care Teams as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Agreement with UGM’s Mission Statement (see ugm.ca) and Statement of Faith.
  • A vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, our Creator, as Saviour and Lord. A
  • Related post-secondary education required.
  • 2-3 years of related work experience is required, with knowledge of issues related to poverty and addiction.
  • Consideration may be given to alternate combinations of lived experience and education.
  • At least 20 hours of training in one or more of these subjects: counselling; crisis and conflict resolution; psychosocial intervention for substance use disorders; and trauma-informed practice.
  • Experience developing Personal Development Plans (PDPs).
  • Experience with therapeutic approach to motivational interviewing, and an understanding of Stages of Change.
  • Experience working in a community organization, foundation or ministry.
  • Experience with Indigenous participants, working in a multi-ethnic and socially diverse community is an asset.
  • Excellent English skills (verbal, writing, and reading).
  • Intermediate computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work well as a team member as well independently; self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality within the organization and its clientele.
  • Able to manage time effectively and appropriately.
  • Able to effectively identify and solve problems and follow through on initiatives.
  • Completion of UGM’s Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training and all other mandatory training, including First Aid training/certification and Naloxone training/certification.
  • Willing to provide current vaccination information..
  • Complete UGM Outreach Manager Orientation Course.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers’ license preferred.
  • Technical Competency—Trauma-Informed Care (Level 3): Help identify negative events that have impacted the client’s functioning, and develop interventions that emphasize safety, choice, and personal control.

Working Conditions

  • Work Location

Work is generally performed indoors, with up to 30% of the time spent outdoors in all types of weather.

  • Physical Requirements

Duties require extended periods of standing and/or walking. Duties require occasional periods of climbing, pulling/pushing items, lifting/carrying items, keyboarding, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Employees are required to look at a computer screen for up to 50% of the time. Must be able to lift up to 35lbs occasionally.

  • Work Conditions

Working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate. Work is performed amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises. Regular environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water. This position is required to work in an environment often dealing with participants in crisis situations brought about by diverse problems. The ability to function independently and frequently under pressure, while managing multiple concurrent tasks including emergency situations is an ongoing expectation of this position.

This position typically works weekday daytime shifts. Some work on scheduled days off may be required. Moderate overtime may be required. Work on statutory holidays may be required.

  • Hazards

Job requires frequent interaction with the public some of whom may be upset, abusive, and/or violent. Job requires working frequently with people in unhealthy conditions and may include exposure to bodily fluids, lice and bedbugs. Employee is required to hear information about participants’ lives which may be troubling or upsetting, and may cause emotional issues including vicarious trauma.
