Carpenter (Multi-Skilled Tradesperson)
Carpenters at On Side rebuild and restore damaged personal property anywhere and anytime a disaster strikes. With the goal of getting things back to a pre-disaster state Multi-Skilled Tradespeople use the skills of carpenters, drywallers, painters and magicians! Making clients believe magic has happened is all part of a day for a Multi-Skilled Tradesperson.
Responsible for…
The multi-talented Carpenter is skilled in the following ways:
- Refined skills with various in-home renovation repairs/restoration vs new build
- Rough and trim and finish
- Drywall repairs: boarding and mudding
- Brush and roller painting (could include walls, ceilings, trim)
- Ceiling installation, knockdown and texturing
- Insulation and vapour barrier installation
- Being awesome, in general!
- Installation
- Doors
- Trim, moldings, and baseboards
- Flooring
- Cabinetry
- Repairs to wooden structures of all sorts
- Framing
What you bring
The Multi-Skilled Tradesperson brings a host of abilities to their work, not the least being a ‘get it done!’ attitude. Additional abilities required include:
- Interior carpentry repairs
- Leadership to guide helpers and train less experienced workers
- Ability to work well alone or in a team
- Experience working in construction environments
- Tools and the skills to use them
- Strong people and communication skills
- Attention to detail, passion for quality and pride in the work you do
- Interest in cross training and willingness to help out all team members regardless if the job is related to carpentry duties
- Ability to work later than scheduled when needed: including travelling out of town
- A safety mindset
- Valid drivers license
- Ability to pass a criminal record check
- Ability to communicate in English
Other stuff that’ll help you be successful but isn’t mandatory:
- Red Seal Carpentry ticket
- Skilled trades ticket (Carpenter, Painter, Cabinetmaker)
- IICRC certification (restoration focus)
- WHMIS
- First Aid
Of Note
Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement.

- Restoration work requires documentation and tracking throughout your workday. Are you comfortable operating a phone to navigate through applications and record info as instructed?
- This position is mostly dealing with in-home repairs/restoration vs new builds.
Tell us about your in-home repair skills.
- Are you able to work a Rotating On-Call Schedule (Responding to emergency calls after business hours)? This is additional to scheduled daytime hours as per the schedule. Premium and overtime is paid.
- This position can be physically demanding and requires a person to bend, crouch, reach, kneel, etc. Will this activity be a problem?
- Do you consider yourself to be a leader, organized and self motivated? This position requires a high degree of making logical decisions, training helpers, dealing with home-owners, schedules and job duties, and above all attitude is #1.
Describe how you could be an asset to On Side Restoration:
- Do you have a JM or Red Seal Carpentry ticket or any formal training in Carpentry. Please describe.
- Please list any additional skills you may have that are not present on your resume (example: cabinetry, siding, flooring).
- This position requires a multi skilled tradesperson who can go into a home/business that had flood/fire damage and be able to fix all damaged areas: assessing what needs to be done: remedying damage using carpentry and problem solving skills.

Experience:
- drywalling/ drywall repairs/ patching: 1 year (preferred)
- interior home renovation: 1 year (preferred)
- finish carpentry: 1 year (preferred)
