Hours of Work:Up to 24 Hours per week

Overview
Be part of the Kitchener children’s program team – where fun and friends meet! The City of Kitchener is looking for creative, energetic leaders interested in helping us offer day camps, after school, sport programs; for children ages 4 to 13.
You will lead and participate in activities that provide children with the opportunity to play to explore and to discover new things. Your enthusiasm and passion for running activities for children keeps them coming back!
Responsibilities
- Actively participate in creating a high-energy program activity and communicating effectively with all team members.
- Demonstrate energy and enthusiasm when delivering fun and creative activities.
- Proudly represent the City of Kitchener by providing quality programming and exceptional customer service.
- Role-model positive behavior for participants (teamwork, responsibility, initiative, and sportsmanship).
- Follow daily program schedules, making minor program modifications to accommodate the abilities and interests of participants.
- Supervise participants at all times to ensure their inclusion and safety.
- Ensure the safety and cleanliness of program areas and equipment.
- Support participants in their efforts to try new activities and develop new skills.
- Use good judgment and respond professionally to resolve problems and conflicts.
- Interact with peers, supervisors, administration, participants, and parents using positive, clear communication.
- Ensure parents/guardians are informed of the participant’s daily activities and overall well-being.
- Assist with any program emergency procedures, providing first aid as required.
- Assist Inclusion Support Workers and personal support workers to accommodate children with disabilities.
- Support senior staff in completing records and reports, including attendance, accident/incident reports, safety checklists, etc.
- Assist in providing direction to and monitoring activities volunteers.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Partial completion of secondary school education (or equivalent).
- 1 month of experience working or volunteering with school-aged children in a group setting.
- Must be at least 15 years old by the first day of employment, unless otherwise specified.
- Valid CPR Level "C" and Standard First Aid Certificate.
- Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense as a condition of employment issued after date offer of employment is made.
- Reliable transportation to the work location.
- Completion of Principles in Healthy Child Development training is considered an asset.

Depending on the location and focus of the program, some applicants must have:
- The ability to participate in pool programming in the water.
- The ability to participate in an outdoor natural setting during all weather conditions.
- Knowledge of or interest in arts, sports, environmental, cultural, or STEM education.
- Knowledge of or interest in active and quiet games, songs, activities, and crafts appropriate for children ages 4-13.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
