About the Position
Reporting to the Manager, Bookstore Services, the Lethbridge Polytechnic Bookstore requires a positive and energetic individual with strong organizational, technical, and interpersonal skills to serve as a full-time Inventory Specialist. The Inventory Specialist is responsible for performing day-to-day activities associated with receiving, shipping, and managing inventory of textbooks and general merchandise for the bookstore.
In addition to the Manager, the Inventory Specialist works closely with the Textbook Buyer and the Web Sales Specialist in the background operations of the Bookstore. The ability to stand for extended periods of time and manually transport and lift heavy items is essential for this role. Attention to detail is an asset as this position includes checking for accuracy in textbook, general merchandise and clothing orders along with entering required information into the inventory management software. The Inventory Specialist must thrive in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work independently on daily tasks and seasonal duties.
Regular hours include Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Evening and weekend shifts may be required for special events. Working in a post-secondary environment and helping students with their education journey is a career like no other. If this appeals to you please apply today!

Position Details
- Retrieve daily shipments from the shipping and receiving dock
- Receive textbooks and general merchandise into the inventory management software
- Check the accuracy of shipments received and identify any errors
- Match invoices to purchase orders
- Organize and set up textbook shelves on the sales floor each semester
- Maintain and organize storage areas
- Prepare used textbooks for resale during textbook buyback
- Facilitate returns of unused textbooks to publishers each semester
- Complete annual inventory counts
- Prepare merchandise for placement on the sales floor
- Print tags and ensure the accuracy of pricing on merchandise
- Monitor inventory levels of merchandise on the sales floor and in storage areas
- Assist with web order pick-ups during fall and winter rush periods
- Prepare gowns and regalia for the fall and spring Convocation ceremonies
- Assist with processing transactions and sales floor coverage as needed
- Assist with balancing daily sales and preparing deposits
Required Qualifications
- Minimum two-year diploma plus at least one year of related experience; a combination of education and work experience may be considered.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in decision-making.
- Technical skills with demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications: Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Ability to work accurately and precisely with tasks of a detailed and confidential nature.
- Conscientious adherence to guidelines, performance standards, and policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant experience in a retail setting – Books and/or Clothing.
- Experience handling cash and working on a POS (Point of Sale) system.
- Positive demeanor and ability to work independently.
Salary
AUPE Level 5 Step 1 $21.12/hour
