RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
The incumbent will join the Biostatistical Consulting Unit (BCU), part of the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE). Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of the BCU and a leading principal investigator of the project, they will provide statistical support to specific projects involving RI-MUHC and McGill collaborators. A key aspect of the role involves supporting specific clinical research projects led by principal investigators (PIs), particularly those utilizing large-scale administrative or population-based databases. The incumbent will contribute to the scientific and methodological development of the Unit and assume responsibility for the statistical aspects of clinical research projects, aligning with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines.

General Duties
  • Serve as a biostatistician, leading the statistical design, grant preparations, statistical analysis, and dissemination of diverse projects related to a specific research group,
  • Experience working with large-scale administrative databases exclusively at Institut de la Statistique du Québec (ISQ) data centers,
  • Collaborate with PIs and BCU staff to ensure quality control and adherence to timelines,
  • Develop and write Statistical Analysis Plans (SAP) for grants, protocols, and research publications,
  • Develop and write relevant results sections based on Statistical Analyses for research publications and presentations,
  • Conduct statistical analysis using appropriate software and methods,
  • Collaborate with project managers, research coordinators, and data managers who may be involved in the context of different projects,
  • Assist MUHC-RI residents and trainees through knowledge transfer activities,
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the BCU Associate Director or the PI.

Education / Experience

Education: Master's Degree

Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in statistical design and analysis in applied clinical research,
  • 3 years of analytical consulting experience, preferably ISQ databases,
  • 2-3 years of data management experience.

Required Skills

  • Experience in clinical health research within a Contract Research Organization (CRO), pharmaceutical company, or consulting firm is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with trainees and clinicians in the application of statistical methods is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in all tasks.
  • Proven analytical thinking and logical reasoning abilities.
  • Effective problem assessment and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
  • Proficient in statistical software Preferably R, STATA, or similar.
  • Experience with large-scale administrative and insurance databases
  • Excellent prioritization, time management, communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proven record of scientific communications.

Additional information

Status: Temporary (1 year contract) Full-Time (35 hours/week)
Pay Scale: $68,140.80 - $126,562.80 Commensurate with education & work experience.
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
Work Site: MGH, 1650 Cedar Ave.
