Who is Chief Red Bear Children’s Lodge?
Through the organization of Chief Red Bear Children’s Lodge (CRBCL), Cowessess First Nation is the first Indigenous community in Canada to assert its jurisdiction over child welfare and family services under the Bill-C92 Canada Act. CRBCL is currently developing its operations, in accordance with the Miyo Pimatisowin Act, which provides support for its children and families in a way that is rooted in traditional Indigenous values and cultural practices.
Position Summary
CRBCL is currently seeking an Awâsisîwiwin Early Years Coordinator to work with the Peyakôskân (Good Life, Prevention) Team. The selected candidate must be passionate about change while developing programs for families who have infants and/or children up to the ages of 5 years. This is an amazing opportunity to collaborate relevant agencies and community partners to assist families with their unique requirements. The Awâsisîwiwin Early Years Coordinator will work closely with early years children and their families to support and embrace cultural teachings and language while also focusing on child development in communication, social awareness and their overall growth. This position will work with the Good Life team and other departments within CRBCL such as Growing Up Well and Culture, to bring applicable programming to our families and children. This role requires strong organizational skills, effective communication and a positive attitude to work within our progressive work culture that embraces the values and traditions of Cowessess First Nation. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new and exciting Canada wide initiative.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Social Sciences, Social Work or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience.
- 3-5 years of experience working with early years children (ages 0-5).
- Strong knowledge of children’s development and behaviours.
- Experience in planning, organizing, and leading programs or events is crucial.
- Experience working with First Nations communities and knowledge of First Nations values, culture, traditions, and governance.
- An understanding of budgeting and financial management.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills including significant attention to detail.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and software such as Microsoft Office and Adobe.

- A passion for preserving and promoting First Nations cultures.
- Sensitivity to the unique needs and perspectives of First Nations communities.
- Ability to create safe, inclusive, and engaging environments for children, demonstrating a blend of practical experience in child engagement strategies and program management.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of the child(ren), families, and the organization.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues during events or project execution
- Effectively coordinate with volunteers, staff, and artists, while also demonstrating leadership and teamwork skills.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- A positive and adaptable approach to problem solving.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the region, as required.
- Fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset but not required.
The incumbent must provide a successful criminal background check with vulnerable sector search as well as be willing and able to commute to the CRBCL Head Office on a regular basis, which is located on Cowessess First Nation, SK.
