Job Description
As an Associate, Financial Reporting, you will help ensure the accuracy and integrity of CPP Investments’ financial reporting processes. You will lead pieces of work focused on preparing legal entity financial statements, applying, interpreting accounting policies and guidelines, and supporting the execution of special projects aimed at enhancing financial reporting efficiency and effectiveness.
Team Description
The Subsidiary Reporting Team is responsible for preparing and reviewing financial reporting for the organization’s subsidiaries. The team ensures compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and external regulatory requirements.
Accountabilities:
- Coordinate and help prepare the quarterly and annual financial statements, including the financial statement notes in accordance with IFRS and support external reporting requirements by preparing/reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual investment and financial schedules, reconciliations, and audit requests.
- Work closely with various departments and stakeholders to review and analyze supporting schedules, reflect the financial statement impact of new investment products and seek ways to improve current reporting efficiency and accuracy.
- Oversee ongoing operational activities of wholly owned CPP Investments’ entities to ensure compliance with local legal, regulatory, external and internal requirements and take ownership for completing all compliance deliverables in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with third-party service providers to ensure timely communication of investment changes, financing activities and any relevant information to assist in producing accurate financial information for reporting.
- Review financial statements prepared by third-party service providers for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with CPP Investments policies and standards.
- Maintain proper documentation of financial reporting processes and controls and drive process improvement initiatives to standardize and automate financial statements preparation and reporting processes by leveraging functionality of existing systems.
- Support special projects, cross functional initiatives, and/or ad hoc reporting as assigned.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or college diploma in related field (i.e., Finance, Accounting, Business, etc.)
- 5+ year of relevant experience in financial reporting in investment management, pension fund or financial services industry
- Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA)
- Familiarity with corporate, financial, and regulatory filing requirements in various jurisdictions is an asset.
- Excellent understanding of IFRS and the ability to quickly grasp internal controls over financial reporting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - ability to identify issues and determine course of action in situations with little or no precedent, analytical and holistic thinking is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
