The Belleville Beast Swim Team (BBST) are seeking a full-time Head Age Group Coach. The successful candidate must be enthusiastic and be willing to work with all types of athletes. Coaching hours include multiple afternoons/evenings/mornings per week and daily administrative duties. The Head Age Group Coach will attend the majority of meets and training camps throughout the season.
It is preferred that the selected applicant is interested in pursuing coaching as a career and looking to commit long term. The Head Age Group Coach is expected to contribute towards improvement at all levels. The main priority is to work alongside the Head Coach to enhance swimmer progression. Multiple opportunities to work with high performance athletes will arise throughout the season. The ideal candidate would have a team-oriented approach and consistently display a true passion for competitive swimming.
Qualifications:
- Minimum NCCP Level 1 Certified (NCCP Fundamentals Coach or NCCP Age Group Coach)
- Current NLS certification and CPR C preferred
- Knowledge of Team Unify Website and/or Hy-Tek software (Team Manager) preferred
- Provide a Vulnerable Sector background check
- Possess expert knowledge in all technical aspects of competitive swimming
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with junior coaches, athletes, and parents
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate Junior Coaches effectively
- Previous coaching experience in a competitive swim environment or experience as a competitive swimmer
- Valid driver’s license and personal transportation preferred
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Head Coach to design and implement engaging swim practices that focus on technical skill improvement
and competitive development cohesively across swimming groups
- Provide direct guidance and mentorship to Junior Coaches reporting to you, assisting them with practice planning, skill
development, and ensuring the effective delivery of coaching strategies
- Support athlete development by helping monitor the progress of swimmers, providing constructive feedback and assisting
junior coaches in helping athletes set and achieve personal goals
- Facilitate clear communication with the Head Coach and Junior Coaching Staff to ensure alignment on practice goals, swimmer
progress, and team needs
- Assist with the preparation and setup for swim meets, providing on-site support and helping junior coaches reporting to you,
ensuring athletes are well-prepared during competitions
- Submit meet entries in a timely fashion
- Design and implement pool and dry-land training programs
- Help establish criteria for movement between groups and set a progression strategy
- Supervise assistant coaching staff, including conducting reviews and setting achievement goals
- Attend regular coaches’ meetings and help prepare monthly reports
- Aid in the recruitment of new swimmers and administer assessments
The BBST have been around for over 40 years and since 2012, the team has been operating out of an 8-lane, 25m pool at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre. The BBST currently have 140 members (75 competitive, 45 at the entry level and 20 Masters). The team has 20 athletes qualified for Ontario Age Groups, 10 qualifiers at the Ontario Swimming Championship level, and more than 25 swimmers have represented the BBST on the national stage over the past decade. During the summer, the team trains in the Kinsmen 6-lane, 32m outdoor pool. The BBST are looking to add a valuable coach to help the team advance their skills, technique and rankings at all levels.
Belleville’s population is 56,000 and another 220,000 residents live within 30 minutes of the area. There is a beautiful waterfront with approximately 14km of biking/walking trails on the shores of the Bay of Quinte, which has world-class fishing and boating. Belleville is situated in proximity to Prince Edward County, which boasts some of the best fresh-water beaches and award-winning wineries.
