Requirements and Responsibilities:
General:
- Provide the Operating Management team with useful input and suggestions for store improvement.
- Display excellent leadership and knowledge within the store; exhibiting consistently sound judgment when dealing with staff, customers and other management within the store.
- Provide support to the Department Managers and another store staff.
- Display excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Provide a level of Customer Service that meets or exceeds established standards.
- Understands and is capable of performing daily store operations by him as required. This includes a complete understanding of store opening and closing procedures, emergency procedures and general store policies and procedures.

Human Resources:
- Assist the Operating Management team in an effort to create and maintain excellent employee morale throughout the store.
- Act as a strong source of motivation for Department Managers and other store staff by consistently communicating and asking for feedback.
- Ability to organize work and set priorities for self and management team.
- Clearly communicate with Department Managers regarding any/all changes in policies and procedures.
- Act as a Health and Safety role model through a clear understanding of all policies and procedures, completing all required safety training in a timely fashion and actively participating in managing the health, safety and wellness of the entire staff.
- Monitors the performance of the Department Managers.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with Department Managers by providing information, direction, feedback and support as required.
- Works with the General Manager to establish Department Manager monthly schedules as well as annual vacation schedules in accordance with business needs and employee expectations.
- Assist Department Managers by providing effective solutions to issues brought to his attention.
- Working with the General Manager, discuss performance and disciplinary issues with Department Managers and deliver verbal/written warnings as required.
- Work with the Department Managers to address levels of customer service that fail to meet established standards and recommend appropriate corrective action.
- Ensure that staff adheres to all housekeeping standards, both on the sales floor and in the warehouse.
- Training and Development:
- Ongoing commitment to the development of all managers and employees toward helping them achieve their personal and career goals while working in the store.
- Commitment to help all employees achieve personal satisfaction and enjoyment from their position, through enrichment from positive feedback, growth and training opportunities.
- Constant assessment of the retail environment as a means to observe new opportunities and the ability to translate these opportunities into achievable action plans.
- Ongoing commitment to the highest level of Customer Service in the store and Auto Service Centre through clear communication and adherence to Dealer and Corporate guidelines.
- Ongoing commitment to a strong working relationship with the Dealer, reacting to the changing retail environment, with the Dealer’s best interests foremost at all times. Ongoing commitment to maintaining supportive communication between the Dealer and all employees at all times.
- Identify cross-training opportunities as a means to increase the effectiveness of each Department.
- Provide orientation training to new Department Managers as required, in conjunction with the General Manager and Human Resources Administrator.
- Ensure all Department Managers provide all training required by their staff in a timely fashion (i.e. E Learning, Health and Safety, PPE etc.)
- Regularly coach and provide feedback to all Department Managers.
- Hiring:
- Work with the General Manager to effectively plan upcoming staffing requirements.
- Work with the General Manager to determine the quantity and type of personnel required for open positions within the store.
- Working with the Department Managers, interview and select candidates as required.
- Sales/Gross Profit/Basket Size:
- Ensure all retail merchandising in completed with the goal of maximizing overall sales, basket size and gross profit opportunities.
- Maximize the Gross profit opportunities within the store through ensuring the execution of an effective wing panel, check-out and in-store special program.
- Working with the Promotions Manager, ensure that all Core Audit execution guidelines are followed in the feature area and that all 300 series deal products and in-store special products are merchandised as a means to maximize sales and gross profit opportunities.
- Utilization of all available tools to ensure that the level of merchandising is impactful, meaningful and in compliance with established standards.
- Working with the General Manager, ensure department aisle maintenance is being completed on a regular basis, following established guidelines.
- Working with the General Manager, monitor the hole counts in each department and follow up with department managers in all instances where hole counts deviate from acceptable levels.
- Working with the Inventory Manager, ensure Department Managers are reviewing upcoming promotional events and providing input prior to deal ordering taking place.
- Working with the inventory Manager, ensure Department Managers are reviewing past deals as a mechanism to order stock that can become a part of the in-store special sales program.
- Working with the Promotions Manager, ensure all ending deals are reviewed for in-store special opportunities.
- Working with the Inventory Manager, ensure all 600 series deals are executed in a timely fashion.
- Regular and appropriate follow up of all tasks as well as for addressing any level of execution that does not meet with established standards.
- Communicate all sales and margin opportunities encountered while merchandising and/or selling so that senior management has the opportunity to respond.
- Work with all Department Managers to ensure that inventory is readily available on the sales floor and that replenishment product is available and easily accessible for filling throughout the day.
- Work with all Department Managers to monitor inventory that is out of stock and take pro-active steps to ensure that these products have been re-ordered.
- Work with the Management team to ensure 100% compliance with the Fast Find locating program.
- Productivity:
- Work with the General Manager to establish department sales objectives and budget staff hours as a means to attain these goals and provide appropriate levels of customer service.
- Ensure Department Managers are utilizing their staff in an efficient and productive manner. Take corrective steps in cases where hours are not being utilized efficiently.
- Identify opportunities to improve effectiveness within all departments and take the necessary steps to implement solutions.
- Increase performance levels through regular, clear and effective feedback to all Department Managers.
- Security and Loss Prevention:
- Responsible for store opening and closing procedures.
- Knowledge of and confidentiality in regards to all store security codes, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of alarm system.
- Ability to effectively utilize the camera system as a means to detect both external and internal loss prevention issues.
- Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; post secondary education an asset
- 3 or more years of Management experience in a Retail environment
- Successful track record in customer service, operations and merchandising
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
- Ability to lead, motivate and manage a team
- Highly developed time management and organizational skills
- Working knowledge of retail operating systems
- Flexibility to work any shift, including evenings and weekends, as required
